Wrist supports

I've had a weak wrist for about 2 years now, have no idea what caused it or what the problem is. I've been diagnosed with wrist strain, tendonitis, and hypermobility. It's gotten worse lately since I took a job as a waitress. When I'm bench pressing it feels weak and painful and I was wondering if wrist supports will help a lot. I bought Schiek brand from the weightlifting section of the local sports store. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to help it? Thanks

front squats really kill my wrists...plus I work at a computer.

I haven't used any wrist wraps, but I've considered trying them out. I just lay off the moves that hurt when it gets bad. Nate has also been trying out different trigger points on me (namely, my jaw...damn TMJ). This is crazy stuff. Maybe he'll post up the name of the book he just bought...

Hiya,

Consider working to develop your wrist muscles. What exercises do you currently do for them?

I suggest multiple sets of wrist curls, reverse-wrist curls. Sit on the end of a bench with a set of dumbells in front of you. Wresting your forarm/wrists on your knees/legs, curl your wrists with dumbells 20x and then reverse it for 20x, wait about 30 seconds, and do it again. Try to do at least 2 sets and increase to 3 or 4 as time goes on.

However, don't listen to me unless a few other folks here back me up; I'm not a certified trainer.

BTW - how about posting a pic. Or emailing me one. Girls who bench are extra cute!

For you Synpax... others on the board may have already seen these pictures. The first one was taken in May, the second in July. I don't have any really recent ones. I will probably start wrist curls with some light weight. Hopefully it will help. As of right now I don't do any wrist specific exercises.

I'm having wrist issues too. Pretty safe to say it's tendonitis in my left wrist. I think I'll try some of the exercises once it is rested a bit. I may try a wrap though

I've got TMJ too. It sucks. Any success with trigger points for releasing pain?

Liftbig... I ran track in high school (class of 98). Since then I haven't done much of anything except work, go to school and be lazy. I wouldn't call myself an athlete unless sleeping is a sport.

I have tendonitis in both wrists, which hurt much too often.I dont have any set routine, but like to use bands for wrist curls and extensions(i usually work them from all angles),and also for doing a movement that looks like you are turning a door knob.
Try to see if their are any specific positions that your wrists are weak at,and work on them, and also make sure that the bar is positioned properly in your hands when pressing,to take some strain off of your wrists. As for wraps...I have inzer wrist wraps and they work really good to keep your wrists solid, but I only use them if my wrists are hurting alot,so that I dont get used to relying on the wraps.

sweet, you look like you would have ran track. What events did you do? track was my favorite sport in high school.

and about the wrists..wear some wrist wraps when you bench or any movnement like benching. try and keep your wrist as straight at possible, and not let it bend back too far thats when you hurt your wrists. next time you bench see where the bar is placed on your hand, if it is too high, i.e. up more towards your knuckles your wrist will bend back more and place alot of stress on the wrist. you want the bar to be lower on your hand, like the heel of your palm(does that make sense).

has anyone tried any of the jiont renewal supps? i keep seeing ads for labrada's with MSM. i am courios about it, cause it it works, that would be great.

Glucosamine sulfate + chrondroitin

I have found glucosamine sulfate + chrondroitin to help with joint pain. Of course, be sure that you are not allergic to sulfur! Oh yes, nice pictures. :p

My wrists hurt like fuck when I do close grip bench presses. I'm pretty sure it's just because I'm not flexible at all. I really should start stretching them ...

i bet your doing them too close. MM benchers consider pinky on the rings close grip. WSB considers 1 finger touching the smooth close grip...... where are you hands.

and babymuscles........... i dont think wrist curls are the answer..... just my opinion. but wrist curls strengthen the forearm muscles not the wrist bones them selves.

go to a doctor if you can, or just try to keep your wrist straight on everything possibl.e and no one will call you a wuss for wearing wrist straps for an injury.

keep up the good work, you look great.

X

Well, I don't have pain in my jaw...it just clicks. It actually moves out and to the left, then clicks to the right. Pretty freaky. I stopped chewing gum (hard habit to break) and have been trying to sleep without a pillow. So far the trigger points have noticeably loosened up the muscles in my jaw although it is a bit more tender because of the technique used. I'll keep you posted.
