Would you have your daughters get the

yes, i would.

He is being short sited if there was a vaccine for AIDS would he feel the same way?

I would. IMHO, how you rear your children, their environment, and hell I'll even add in genetic predisposition towards acting like the village bike would have a bigger impact as opposed to said daughters possessing the knowledge of having said vaccine.

absolutely, don't be retarded, if any vaccine can prevent any disease without any major side effects than it's a no brainer.

your husband's iq = -100

when i have to "do the thinking" for idiot patients, i use a bunch of leading questions, so ask your hub somethign along the lines of the following:

do you think its okay for people to have unprotected sex?
what if theyre in a long term relationship? (yes)
after how many months would you say it would be ok? (6 months, whatever)
so youd agree that pretty much everyone in a long term relationship ends up having unprotected sex? (yes)
and one day our daughters are probably going to end up having unprotected sex with someone, say, their future husband maybe? (yes)
so given that youve pretty well just acknowledged that the girls are probably going to have unprotected sex someday, with someone, its a pretty good idea to get the vaccinnation since, after all, HPV is really really hard to detect in the first place, and if they do get it, even accidentally, from their future husband, getting CANCER is pretty serious, dont you think?

i get really frustrated with this shit sometimes. (greek people. the ultimate "in denial about something to do with sex" race in the universe. ever.)

It is a series of 3 shots recommended for girls 12 - 15 I believe..

As studies indicate the percentage of girls that have had sex for he first time
goes way up after that.

Sides are generally the same as with most other vaccines

WTF well I read somewhere that in MI they are thinking of making it manditroy so really who cares what he thinks they might have to do.

I get so disgussed hearing parents say stupid stuff..Oh my daughter won't do that, this or the other thing. Get a wake-up call. Your daughter will and does. I know I've preached this before but I'm going to say it again. Get those lines of communication open people. Just because you are protecting her, thru information, does not mean she will go out and fuck around! With that being said I say this with sadness. My second daughter, 19 has HPV. It only takes one time so don't wait to take action. For her it showed up on her pap. Next week she is going in for a very painful but minor cervix freezing. HPV if left untreated equals cervical CANCER. Side note: for the guys..if your girl has HPV there is no effect on you. You CAN pass it that's it.

Peace

You can pass for religious beliefs..But I would still get it done..The Pope is not going to die from cervical cancer

OMG... It sounds so painfull and uncomfortable. I know... nothing compared to cancer, you dont have to say it. But 12 -15 is so young. I am not being naive about that either. I suppose I should discuss this with my children.

Is this administered by the pediatrician or a gynecologist?

Gymgurl said:
That I am not sure...I would hope a pediatrician...I thought 12 was a little early...
They want to get them beofore they start having sex you would like to think they would be miuch older but you never know. I had a fair share of friends lose there virginty at ages as young as 14. If they are 12 they likely have the period etc and 12 now know a ton more then way back in the day so letting them know why this is being done is no biggy IMO.

This is truly a great thing and I speak from experience having been through a surgery to remove cancer cells from my cervix.

Yes. Yes. Yes! Putting our heads in the sand and pretending that people don't have premarital sex, is not going to make the situation better for anyone. When we were teenagers most of us had premarital sex despite the fact that most of our parents didn't want to give us birth control because they thought it would encourage us to have sex. It amazes me that we don't remember back to being that age and realize that preventing problems of sex does not promote having sex.

I know that many CHILDREN are giving head by 10!!! Believe me, I do not have my head in the sand in this regard. I truly believe that knowledge is power.

The only thing that sucks is having to have them subjected to the injection at such a young age. This would then be their first gynecological experience. It's bad enough when you go as you decide that you want to become sexually active (I was 17 and went on my own and paid for it all as my mother would have had a fugging heartattack if I told her.) but to lay back on that table and have a hyuge ass needle injected into your cervix... the pain must be unimaginable.

I had the biopsy too and I thought I was going to die.

If anyone has more info about this please post up. As mother to four girls I genuinely appreciate it.

Is this also recommended for older women?

So there's an HPV vaccine now....excellent news. And why anyone would rather risk having their kid infected (when they're going to fuck regardless) is beyond common sense. Denial ain't just a river.....have to think realistically about these things. If it's actually an approved vaccine and on the market then it's just as important as a hepatitus or tetanus shot. Plain and simple. Too much nasty stuff out there and being stubborn is no solution.

The vaccine is a standard shot, not the procedure somone else alluded to in this thread. It is also being tested in men for efficacy against symptoms of hpv like genital warts.

OK... so it's one of those "you get in the arm" shots.

Even if it wasn't, as long as it was safe I would have my daughters vaccinated. To think that your children won't have unprotected sex ever is quite dumb.

Even if she is a virgin on her wedding night (Good God - I HOPE NOT!!!) her husband could still bring it to her.

Honestly, the whole controlling/morality thing is so annoying anymore.

This is interesting because I specifically ask the Dr. how HPV effects guys and he told me it doesn't. Now I know herpes is also another form of HPV, I'm going to reask that question next week.

BM.. obgyn's do not perform internal exams on young girls if they are not having sex. I am not sure if a ped's dr also gives these vac.

In my mind there is no difference in giving all children vac's to protect them from whatever is out there. Think of it as another immunization to add to the little yellow card. Unfortunatly for my girl the vac came to late.

Peace

i'll have to ask, but I think my friends' sisters just got it... i'll have to ask her what kind of shot it was and where

so only 12 to 15 yrs old can get this vaccine? Huh?

if I read that right, they want to start treating girls as early as 12-15 since they are sexually active at that age

so anyone whose 12 and over can get the vaccine?

age 12 sexually active... OMG!!!!

Why is the HPV vaccine recommended for such young girls?
Ideally, females should get the vaccine before they are sexually active. This is because the vaccine is most effective in girls/women who have not yet acquired any of the four HPV types covered by the vaccine. Girls/women who have not been infected with any of those four HPV types will get the full benefits of the vaccine.

Will sexually active females benefit from the vaccine?
Females who are sexually active may also benefit from the vaccine. But they may get less benefit from the vaccine since they may have already acquired one or more HPV type(s) covered by the vaccine. Few young women are infected with all four of these HPV types. So they would still get protection from those types they have not acquired. Currently, there is no test available to tell if a girl/woman has had any or all of these four HPV types.

Why is the HPV vaccine only recommended for girls/women ages 9 to 26?
The vaccine has been widely tested in 9-to-26 year-old girls/women. But research on the vaccine’s safety and efficacy has only recently begun with women older than 26 years of age. The FDA will consider licensing the vaccine for these women when there is research to show that it is safe and effective for them.

The argument that it will promote premarital sex is just lame -- I doubt seriously a girl is going to say "Well, shit. I've had the HPV shot, so I may as well just get it on!"

Promotes premarital sex? Personnally, I don't think so. There's a host of other, more immediately serious STDs out there that should be a deterrent. This is their future lives we're talking about. I would pay for it in a heartbeat, for my girl.

Genital warts are caused by a HPV strain.

Yes. Your husband is wrong.

Who cares, it's "normal" now. People need to start fucking as soon as they hit puberty; that's what it's for. Societal impacts are trivial. Down with the government!!

Definitely a good idea to get it done - why do the kids need to be told what *type* of shot it is?? It's a vaccine like their other ones.....no need to go into details.....Something so small that could protect against something potentially so dangerous - it's illogical NOT to get it....

And the LEEP, freezing, etc isn't a picnic, believe me!

I was reading that they will have a 94% chance of never having cervical cancer...That is a high stat....

Um.. Well how do they know it's effective then ?
Once they become active sexually they will have pap test often when a pap comes back abnormal cells it is HPV or in extreme cases they will get gental warts.

My point, cynical as it may have been, was that if they cannot test for the virus
until it turn into pap abnormalities, how are the saying it is effective in preventing
the 4 virus that they cannot test for ?

I guess it would be like having a common cold vaccine, and then saying it was effective simply because you did not catch a cold. How would one know unless you
could test and validate by exposure and avoidance of the Virus ?
