nope.. it would look funny talking to myself.. at least when i go with someone it looks like i'm actually engaged in conversation and not doing a monologue

The main reason such an event would bother a person would be that the person is worried about how others would perceive him/her.
First, who cares how others view you.
Second, the chances of you seeing the people that saw you take part in a movie or dinner by yourself again is very slim.
If you are hungry or wanting to see a movie and there is no one to accompany you because of whatever reason then just go and enjoy yourself.

i go to the movies alone often. its just not a group activity for me, its an escape. lately ive been going with company, and fighting over the popcorn, though 
lunch, yeah sure, sometimes you get stuck alone, but dinner? nah. i seldom go to dinner because i cant find anything that fits in with my diet, so when i go, its a treat, and to be done with people. women, really.

I haven't yet, but I plan to. I have a few friends that do that, at first I thought it was kinda odd..but after I thought about it a bit, I realized, it's even more odd to miss out on a movie you want to see, simply because no one else wants to see it, or has time to go with you.
I think I'll probably feel a bit weird, but I think it's good to make yourself do something out of the ordinary every now and then. Character-building.

i went to see a movie by myself for the first time.. i had 2 business meetings a few hours a part and couldnt find a place to train during that time so i just went to a see a movie.. it was definately a bit strange for me at first but whatever.. it was kinda nice and relaxing.. but the movie wasnt so hot.. oh well

Yep...although I have never beeen to a movie myself....I eat by myself all the time. I know very few people who eat 6-8 times a day, so most of my meals are by myself, even when I eat out (during the day).
I have gone to the movies and dinner by myself when I am away on business. I also went to Hawaii by myself, I was staying with friends who lived there but they had to work so I spent 95% of my time on my own, I had the best time you could imagine and met so many people.
I haven't gone for dinner or a movie at home alone but would have no issues with doing so. I go for lunch Solo almost everyday as I like my down time to read paper, plus I don't want to talk about work at lunch.

I've done it a few times, it's kind of weird but sometimes it's fun.
I rarely go to the movies becasue I hate 99% of what comes out, when I do go it's usually an independent flick. I really don't know too many people that have my taste in movies so sometimes I'd rather go alone than bring someon that is just going to complaint or try to talk me into watching some dumb comedy or action flick. I have dinner by myself at a local restaurant/bar once in a while but I sit at the bar and start chit chat with people, specially the hot bartender chicks and waitresses. It's also good to have reading material so that you don't look like a weirdo jsut looking around at people, or unaproachable. Going out to bars alone is kind of tricky. Most people are out in groups and it's really tough to infiltrate (sp) a group when you are by yourself, I've had some good experiences though, but I'd much rather have some one to go with me and be a wing man. However, just like the movies, I don't like going just to any bar or club I have preferences (punk,goth or indutrial clubs/bars) and not many people I know are into it, so I often wind up going out alone.
