Hell no! A electric car is a piece of crap, 40 miles between each charge and no power! Fossil fuels are used to create the electricity for it! I would buy a hydrogen car, however!

Electric car? No. But maybe a hybrid down road once they really have it down packed. The hybrid honda civic pretty looks and act like a regular civic but it get like 80mpg and costs quite a bit more too.

I would not buy an electric car or one of those existing gas/electric hybrids. I'll tell ya why:

1) They do not perform even remotely close to a gas powered vehicle.
2) The selection is terrible.
3) The increased cost of the vehicle exceeds the amount of gas you'd spend fueling it if it were gas powered.

If we'd stop babying the oil companies and developed a hydrogen powered vehicle, I'd grab one immediately, though.

"They do not perform even remotely close to a gas powered vehicle"

That used to be the case but not anymore, unless your used to driveing a sports car or anything with a V8 in it.

I drove a hybrid (Honda I think) and you could'nt tell the difference(except for the lack of motor sound).

I didn't get on the freeway or anything, but it seemed like it would have no problem.

I have a Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl 4.0 lt and I would say it was on par with it or at least close.

If they can keep them decently priced(wich they fuckin should, since they technicly have fewer parts in them) I'll buy one.

Yeah the Honda Civic Hybrid was tested against a regular Civic and it performed about the same. But the car costs $5,000-6,000 more than a regular one. I think Toyota is supposed to come out with one too. All the ones before the Honda did suck. Still at this point eco warriors are probably the only ones who'll be driving these cars.

Fuck no. I won't even buy a car that gets good gas mileage. My daily driver gets about 25 miles per gallon. If my 10 mile per gallon Jeep wasn't so loud on the highway, I would drive that every day.

Even if they do cost more with the proposed tax breaks(if they happen) and they amount you'd say on gas, in the long run the hybrid would be cheaper.

Last year I probably would have said not really or maybe you'd break even but the way gas prices are going and the tax break I'd say most definately. But really don't think gas prices are gonna soar too much higher without people rioting. They will eventually go back down.

The Civic is a 115hp car. I was referring to performance as in something that is designed to perform. My old Ford Tempo probably had about the same hp. I doubt I will find an electric car with 222-hp like my Maxima, and after driving one, I don't think I'd enjoy driving anything with less.

$6,000 more makes it not worth the expense. You have all these people going "ooh! you save more in gas! stupid gas-powered vehicle user! I am superior!"

Ok

Let's say you fill up once a week. My car has an 18 gallon tank. I'll assume a Civic has the same. I use premium gas which is running about $1.79 now. $1.79 x 18 x 52 = $1,675.44.

So, I could drive my car for 3 and a half years before I'll be saving any money on gas.

But wait... gas prices won't be this ridiculously high forever, and Civics don't use premium gas. Pretend gas prices are back to normal (~$1.40 for regular or less). $1.40 x 18 x 52 = $1310 = 4 years of driving before you save money.

This whole "you save money on gas" thing is just a clever marketing ploy that preys on the mathematically challenged.

Depends on how long the long run is. If you drive your Civic for 20 years you'd make a killing using a hybrid. What's the average length of ownership of a car anyway? 3 years? 4 years? You're either spending the same shit or throwing your money away. No thanks I'll stick with my gas powered vehicle until we stop wasting money on foreign aid and oil-friendliness to develop a hydrogen powered vehicle that can run off my sweat.

That's what I was saying. People by these cars because they are concerned about the environment or maybe against big oil. And lots of people like sports cars and SUVs and obviously a Civic is neither one of those. Big oil has so much money and power to lobby I don't see traditional gas engines going anywhere for a few decades if not longer.

Yeah but alot of cars get shit for gas mileage, I know a lot of people whoses gas bill is almost as much as their truck or car payment.

It depends on how much driving you do, I have a friend who drives a Ford Explorer 6 cyl. He spends $100 a week(this was b/f gas prices startred going up)on gas.

I can't even imagine how much people with V8s spend if they travel alot.
