Would this be a great car sound system?

2 6x9's front
4 12' subs in the back
2 10' subs mounted to the back doors
cd/md player
7 amps, depends on sub specs.

Name your system or dream set up.

man that's overkill bigtime. With all those subs,I suppose you listen to rap only??I listen to deathmetal, this is what I have.

2-5 1/4" fronts
2-tweeters
2-6" rears
2-amps @ 100 watts per channel,4 channels.
1-12" sub
all quality products,it's a conglomerate of stuff, can't remember what is what.Consists of kenwood, jvc, pioneer, and boston acoustics.
My dream system is way too much to list.

Dude - That'd be overkill of overkill. Expect electrical problems/battery shit to happen if you put something like that in.

My current system
Two Pioneer 6x9's (rear deck)
Two Pioneer 4's (in the dash)
Two Pioneer 12's (in bandpass/plexiglass ported box)
Two Pioneer 10's (seperate in 2 standard boxes, 1 on each side of the car)
Two Profile California 600w amps (each is hooked to one 10 and one 12)
CD/Mp3 player (Aiwa, mp3 decoder went out after 9 months and had mad drama with the warranty situation)

This system is even overkill. Normally I wouldnt go with Pioneer subs, but I got all 4 for like $140 (new) through badass sales at local stores (buy 1 get one on the 12's and $20 each on the 10's b/c Circuit City had overstocked by about 400 subs and needed room). Pioneer head units & speakers are some of the best in the industry, and Pioneer has been around forever. The subs arent that fantastic but they get the job done. IMO, an amp is an amp unless you're going for a certain look or have a ton of money to throw around.

Next system (when I get a new car):
One or Two 15" Kicker Solobaric square subs
Panasonic CD/mp3 player (love the blue day/night face)
2-4 Tweeters
Two Pioneer 6x9's (in the trunk - why, you ask, because that way, when you inevitably have to pop your trunk to show your shit to those who inquire, the sound will still sound very very clear coming out of your trunk - smooth shit in my book)
1-2 Amps (something that'll get the job done, off eBay)

Not sure about:
- Replacing the speakers (the car I want has a factory Bose system, heard they are not only a bastard to replace but they probably already sound good, so why fuck with it?)
(BTW the factory's are 5.25" in the doors & 6x9's in the back)
- DVD/TV (if you go to PartsExpress.com or other sites, you can get a car DVD player, TV tuner, and 4-6" screen for a grand total of under $600. Factor in a custom install and you're looking at maybe $900 for DVD and TV in your car, which screams "mack")

for me personally nothings overkill LOL, i listen to music everyday for atleast 5-6 hours...i need LOUD ,QUALITY sound.
Whats big bass to some is just the start for me, i would have to add another batt if i was to run more than that all the time.

2 10' s in the doors - Custom moulds...i've seen them around.

If you have that much hardware, you're not listening to quality music...You're simply getting a ton of base and a lot of vibration. It's nice to see someone plunking down their hard earned money for such a noble purpose...

Well, if you have that much bass and that little mids and hi's, you're not going to have quality sound, that's for sure. It's going to sound like loud, distorted bass, and that's it. My current system is by no means a decibel king, but it's loud enough that I can't turn it up al the way and still sit in the vehicle.

front: 2 Alpine 6-1/2" mids, 2 1" tweeters
Rear: 2 Rockford Fosgate 4x6 plates
Bass: 1 10" Rockford Fosgate HE2 sub in custom sealed box
Amps: 1 Rockford Fosgate 50.4 running mids and hi's with built in crossover, knocking out all freq's below 110hz
1 Rockford Fosgate 250.1 mono amp running the sub.
optima "yellow top" deep cycle battery, running 4ga wire to a 1 farad digital cap, which feeds the amps.

Your system, the way it sounds like you're going to set it up, is going to be WAYYYY too bass-heavy. You won't even hear mids and hi's. Even if you're only looking to enter decibel contests, you'll still score low if it sounds like shit. Your system is a recipe for that type of shit. Talk to any professional installer, they'll tell ya. You don't need all that for good sounding, loud music.

Could you get any more bass and any less mids and high's?

Some lessons for you:

You will need at the very least two Optima yellow top or red top batteries for that setup, and at least 2 1 farad capacitors.

Unless you're going to have amps lying on top of each other and wires running all over your car, you're looking at at least $2000 just in installation and wiring costs, and another $2500 in hardware for a system that will sound like total shit. If you're going to spend that much money, you should come out with a competition level system when all is said and done.

If you're going to put 4 12's in the trunk, why not put 2 more twelves inside the car? Why are you even messing with tens at all? And while we're on the topic, what kind of trunk will hold 4 12's and 7 amps?

And as for the 6x9's, give me a break. 6x9's get loud, but they don't produce quality sound. For that system, you will need a three part component system in the doors. A 7" woofer, a 4" midrange, and a 1.5" tweeter. You will also need 6.5" in the rear deck for fill.

In short, I'm telling you to start dreaming of a new dream system, your current dream really blows. Please don't spend your money on that crap.

I used to work with a guy that had a shitty Neon and spent all of his money on his car and stereo - adding stickers, spoilers, and crappy sound shit.
Meanwhile he had a kid and his baby's momma that needed the money and he was always dodging them.
He was a nice enough guy, but a total fuckup - reminds me of many of the guys on this board - they are going to wake up one day when they are 32 and be like... oops, I've wasted my life.

He cracked 3 rear windshields before he finally let me give him some suggestions on how to get better sound.
We worked out a pretty cool clamshell system, but who knows what he is doing now.

in the end, I don't think it helps to use reason - this guy just wanted to say "hey, sweet system eh?" and have us all start masturbating - and then gets pissed if it doesn't work that way.

one thing is for sure - if you are the investing type - find companies that make parts for hearing aids and the batteries and just go long.
we are going to be the nation of the tattooed deaf.

Thats overkill bro.

I've got
2 51/4 momo's front
2 6x9 momo's back
1 12" momo
2 fostgate 500's

Honestly those 12's will dround out the tens. You won't get clean bass and sound. You'll get nothing but bass. Thats ok for just bass, but that setup won't win anything in a spl comp.

Stay away from 15" solobaric. From experience the 12" solobarics kick harder and put out more long throw bass than the 15's.

not looking tah enter comps, just sounds for driving around...i know of a guy that has 20 yes 20, 10"s or 12"'s (cant remember)in the back of his trunk and it sounds very nice.

first of all, what kind of car is it? 2 door? 4 door? small? medium? large? truck? extra cab? give more details bout the car so's I can give you some suggestions on what MAy sound good..

:fro:

I have 5 amps all kenwood the white ones 23's series real good ones before they changed the microchip board and wiring the 21 ad 23 series were the last 2 that were reall good amps by kenwood.

i have 2 stillwater 6 1/2 inch up front with the $200 titanium or silk (i 4get) material 1 inch tweeters all connected to a kenwood KAC 823 amp with active xover( i think inline big x-overs are called active..hooked up to the tweeters)

2 stillwater 6 1/2 inch in the rear with the $200 1 inch tweeters hooked up to another 823 amp with the stillwater x-over

3 12 inch stillwater kicker solobarics in the rear all hooked up to its own kenwood 923 amp bridged in mono...

2 1 fard stiffening caps.

about $1500 or more of wires and cables and installation crap..(expensive hobby eh? lol)

ALL ALPINE SOURCE (nothing better than ALPINE)....the source unit ($800 Alpine) and way overpriced "dancing" as i call it full sized equalizer ($600)....a 12 disc alpine CD player aith Ai Net technology... i also have a 6 CD changer..that i havent put in the car... hmmm what else... oh 6 way SONY X-over... hard to find a 6 way....

I LOVE stillwater (kicker) and always was a fan of kenwood amps ONLY..my 1st system was 2 free air stillwater 12's and a kenwood 9020 bridged mono..and woofer magnets face OUT of box that was about 1.5 cubic feet and one chamber cabinet......and only the old style kenwood amps from like 93 and earlier are good... .. then my FAVORITE of all time the KAC 921 and KAC 1021. which i later hooked up to the woofers (kenwood 921)

i went with the kenwood amps cause those series amps kick ass as well as they are like speckle pearl white and connect to look like one huge amp.... if i had a 2nd choice... i would have gone with the old Phoenix Gold amps of 1991 and earlier or the Kicker ZR series AMPS they kick some serious fucking ass

i have a leftover KAC 723, im sure ill buy more crap to make use of it.

I also have a (i think its made by autosound) EPICENTER subwoofer controller... i know im leaving some other stuff out that i forgot...

Look some may not need all that shit some may need it or like it and more for that matter...its like bodybuilding...not everyone wants to be 300+ lbs but there are some who do....

Go with Cerwin Vega Strokers. The square speaker blow.
