Would adding a lift increase my trucks resale value

Im thinking of getting rid of my truck. maybe. When i look in the classified all the shitty trucks (ie, 85 ford F-150, 87 Dodge, etc) that should go for 1200 sell for 4500 because they have lifts and oversize tires. So i figure, maybe putting that on my truck will increase its resale value too.

What all do i need to get a proper lift? i know i need larger tires, but can i just use blocks (whatever they're called) to lift the suspension or do i need an in depth suspension lift kit as well?

Also, my trucks engine is weak by truck standards. a V4 2.5L, i dont know if that would matter to a potential buyer or not.

naturally i wouldn't do any of the work myself, id get a mechanic friend of a friend to do it on his free time for $25/hr or so.

And the parts i would buy on either ebay or after searching the internet to find the best deal.

So how much is the equiptment going to cost me? I figure i may be able to add several thousand to the trucks resale value if i find the right buyer.

Ive been down this road many times...the answer is "NO"...it May make it more marketable to a kid...a V4 engine is going to be worthless with oversized rims/tires...alot of strain on drive-train, thats not made for it...especially in the gear dept...I just blew out a diff. in an off-road F-150 with a 4.7L V8...not worth it IMO... if its an 80"s truck-forget it....

no way, I sold a 94' Ford Ranger SuperCab with 80k for $1000.
Nobody is buying used, interest rates too low.

a body lift is cheap, a suspension lift will run you $1k and up. plus you need to regear the differentials if you're going to put oversized tires on it. regearing them to compensate will allow the truck to accelerate like it did with normal size tires on it.

none of this is worth it on a truck that only has a 4 cylinder. you need torque to do good offroading, and that's something that a 4 cylinder just can't produce effectively.

cut your losses and sell the truck as it. it's just giong to be a waste of money unless you can find some sucker to buy it (which is higly possible).

What the hell is a V4???? It's an inline 4......

And Ford never made a 4.7.......I'm sure you meant 4.6 or 5.4.....either way, you didn't blow out your differential with bigger tires......or a lift.....most 4 wheel drive Ford's have at 3:73's or lower.......either way that gear ratio is more than enough to handle up to a 37" tire with no problem.......

I will agree with you on one thing though..........the lift and effort that goes into modifying the truck will not bring you much more for your truck......

Trucks are marketable for one reason...........PEOPLE NEED THEM.

Just because you see a truck advertised for 4500 opposed to your 1200, does not mean that these rednecks are getting that for their truck.

So in short, don't waste your time or money.

Try a decal.............something with fast or furious in the title........

That always brings the value up......... ;)

WRONG! too many people out there thinking that they are hot shit because they have a new, shiny, lifted truck. that's why trucks are marketable. same thing with SUVs. yes, there are people that actually use trucks for what they are meant for. there are 5x as many people that own trucks and SUVs that will NEVER use them for what they are intended for, which is hauling things around and getting them coated in mud from some good old fashioned 4wd fun.

Ummmm......not wrong.....we are talking about a $1500 dollar truck.......

It is marketable, because someone needs it........and only for that reason.
:)

yeah, $1500 truck, you're right. i was more referring to trucks in general. it's retarded how trucks and SUVs have become a status symbol.

yes, i own an SUV. a 91 Blazer that i picked up a year and a half ago for $900. it's been offroad maybe a dozen times since i've gotten it. and if i could afford to go get the Tacoma TRD that i want, i'd have it offroad and covered in mud within a week, gaurenteed.

i'd offroad my Blazer more but i never seem to have the time to do it. it's warming up here and there, ground is real soft....i'll get some mudding in real soon :D
