Worst Fat You Can Eat

Palm oil--look on packages that have "tropical oils". Usually prepared baked goods, cake mixes, etc.

Two-types of essential fatty acids: Linoleic and alpha-linoleic acids. Linoleic acid is classified as an omega-6 fatty acid and is found mostly in vegetable oils. Alpha-linoleic acid is a precursor for the omega-3 fatty acids, which also exist in fattier fishes, including salmon, herring and halibut.

The fat that has the worst reputation is saturated fat, which is hard at room temperature, whereas the essential fats are usually liquid under the same conditions. Saturated fat, although doomed to be the worst of the worst in everyone's eyes, is needed for the body to maximize testosterone synthesis. While, not essential, it is recommended to maximize testosterone synthesis.

But, wait, wait. If we are looking for the KING of bad-fats then we have a winner: Trans fats. The worst fats you can consume in your daily diet, which are, by the way, used in quantities of 30-40% in most processed food. Hey, even your "Healthy Choice" meals contain about 40% trans fat. Probably one more reason not to listen to corporate hype. Yes, this type of fat will raise cholesterol levels, and decrease overall health, but the simple thing to do is, not to consume trans fats. (example: Partially hydrogenated oil. )

Those are EFA, hence the name ESSENTIAL, for they are needed for proper bodily functions. They are the healthy fats. So don't throw them away, instead add more of them.

True dat.

Generally, the way to spot these are to look for "oils" in a solid product. An oil (Like the vegetable oil in margarine) is usually liquid at room temperature. Hydrogenation alters the oil to make it solid, and therefore useable in products that aren't supposed to be watery. These fats are worse than saturated; they lower HDL (good) cholesterol, raise LDL (bad cholesterol), and have been known to key cars, insult your mother, and sleep with your girlfriend.

Avoid them at all costs.
