World's Strongest Man in six months. ha!

I've been watching "World's Strongest Man" and "World's Strongest Woman" competitions on ESPN, for inspiration.

I love these shows. I watched one yesterday. One of the competitors was a huge man of 6'3" or so, maybe 300lbs or so, and the announcer said "he's from the USA, and has only had 6 months of training!"

Well...my first instinct was to put the computer down and watch! Then my very next thought was...how the hell can you condition yourself to compete in a world class weight lifting/endurance competition in six months????!!!

Next thing you know, the guy does some heavy duty military press style event, beating the last dude hands down....but on the last rep...

...he pulled his groin, fell to the ground, and had to be carried off.

What makes people think they can pull these stunts without conditioning?

Dumbass. Well, at least it gives our long term commitment some validation, knowing you can't just walk up and do it, no matter what your genetics.

rant over.

Probably meant he had been training specifically for
strongman for six months not including powerlifting, weightlifting and such.
And even experienced guys get injured in these competitions.

yup plus I think by "training 6 months" you should see this as "juicing hard for 6 months". Ya know Fina/winny/test and all that stuff can perform miracles......

I remember Ronnie coleman saying, after getting his pro card,
that he had been bodybuilding only for one year!
He forgot to mention all the years he did powerlifting.
Like that doesn't count!

Great observation

Strongchick...As intelligent and well structured a rant as it may have been, I think that the fellas may be onto something when they so aptly postulated that the participant may have at one time or another participated in some form of athletic endeavor (maybe even strength related) prior to qualifying for Worlds Strongest Man. What's more, some may even take a leap of faith and hypothesize that there may even have been one or perhaps more qualifying events that lead up to Worlds Strongest Man. Some might even think that there are more than 10 guys in the world at any given time hoping to be on WSM. And finally, some of us who participate in said silliness would even go so far as to refer to the "stunts" as events. :D Being in a sport that has all of the practical life applications that bodybuilding offers, I can understand why you would rant so. (hee hee) :D

I saw that fat bastard and I thought the same thing. this guy was huge fat though! The only training he's done was picking up a 24 piece of KFC instead of the 12 piece.

It was funny when he dropped, he bounced a little. :D

Fat Bastard??

I saw a few guys take dives, so I'm not sure who you are talking about. However, was it THE Fat Bastard from Austin Powers II? If so, maybe you should capitalize his name out of respect. :D

I saw this event on the tele. this dude was tall and huge, but mostly fat. I bet he couldn't even see his toes, but he had power. I think he smoked the other dudes on the military press by four reps...

strongchick....

or anyone actually....

did any of you guys see the World's Strongest Man competetion where the final event was to pull a 747? That was unbelieveble! I saw that a few weeks ago. I wish I could remember the exact weight...or how long they had to pull the plane....but i forget

Yes and the years he played football for Grambling!!

The answer to all this was made perfectly clear when the announcer said the guy was from the U.S. Americans are inherently stronger and smarter and need much less training than their Euro counter parts.

I thought most of the winners have been from Europe in the past ten years?
