Workout Injury - Need Advice

Today I was doing overhead dumbell extensions. I was going heavy with 150's. On the 3rd rep, on the way down I felt a pop in my right tricep. Anyone know what that was. Talked to the manager of the gym, and this guy is real knowledgable. He thinks I strained it or may have had a small tear (since we tear the muscles each time we work out). Crazy thing is a guy the week prior tore his tricep 75% off from doing flat benches.

It has been about 4-5 hours since, and I see no bruising and can't really tell if there is any swelling (cause my arms are so swole, I wish). I have iced it down 3 times already. The pain is a dull pain, that hurts more if you extend your arm over your head as if stretching the muscle. He told me to wait until tomorrow to heat, compress and try to stretch it out.

Anyone have any similar experiences or know what this sounds like. Just really hoping it is nothing serious, and that it will heal up over the weekend.

If you felt a short intense burst of incredible pain you may have torn it. sounds like a sprain or pull to me. i'd be afraid of my elbows hurtin with that much weight

If you dont get any bleeding then it might be torn fascia. I tore fascia in my quads 3 different times and I could hear it tear, sounded like tearing a t-shirt. Guy spotting my squats could hear it. I never got any bleeding since it doesnt really have a rich blood supply. This would be my guess.

The same thing happened to me about 6 years ago. The next day it was all swollen and bruised but I was still able to move my arm and still work and everything. The soreness just kept me out of the gym for about 2-3 weeks, then I came back light for a few weeks and evrything has been fine since then. Thank God!! You will know by tomorow if you have to go to the doctor or not. In the meantime, ice it up really well for about 20 minutes at a time(put the ice pack or pack of peas right on your skin. Let that ice penetrate). Hope it's just a strain. Good luck and keep us posted.

woke up today and no bruising. Feeling like it has a little more flexibility in it. Going to try and stretch it and heat it today.

Could be anything, sounds like a biceps tendon, work around it, if the pain worsens see an MD fast.

Not to hi-jack your post but I am 57 and lifting is really a matter of working around all the different injuries I have.

Sorry but I don't think you understand this injury. There is no working around it. It has nothing to do with the bicep. Its all triceps. I think it is a pulled muscle.
