does anyone work out when they are sick... ive had a cold for the past few days and i dont wanna stop lifting cause i am making good gains.. should i give it a break or just keep going... any info would be appriciated.. thanks..

I have always heard that if you don't have a fever then it is okay to workout. I always workout when I am sick. You will know if you are hitting it to hard while sick. Hope you feel better soon!

maybe try a cardio session, nothing overly strenuos, but enough to make you sweat alot, it usually helps clear me up

Hey bro! I always train while sick, even with a fever. I find it helps me recover much quicker! Depends how severe the illness also though.

I think there have been 3 workouts that I've ever missed from being sick. I've even called in sick to work just so I could rest up to workout, lol. I just "know" when I'm too sick to workout. You have to listen to your body.

I've had a sinus infection for over a week now. I missed work and class last Friday. I haven't missed a workout though.
...chad...

Lift when sick it's a great plan of attack. It shows the cold that it doesn't have a chance of breaking you down. The cold says "holy shit this dudes a maniac he's already down and out, and now he's doing heavy deads what a psycho, I'm outta here!!"

thanks for all the replys . i worked out today despite feeling sick . i noticed that i was sweating alot more ...but felt pretty good after..

On a side note, if you workout often, make sure to take anti-oxidents to prevent illness due to free radical release that occurs during intense workout sessions. :)

Funny you should mention. At the gym today between DL sets I went to the bathroom and threw up everything in my stomach, and then went back to finish the DL sets.

Felt much better because going to the gym always makes me feel better.

i wouldn't train with a cold. your bound to have some shitty workouts if you do and may worsen your condition. just take a break and hit it hard the following week. tb

I always feel like a cold is my body telling me it is in a state of overtraining. I take a break and listen to it. seems to keep me fresh. I've tried working thru it but that seems to prolong it

depends on how sick, and depends on the workout. I had the flu last week and i said hell no to legs day, i did get in and do some barbell curls and some less strennuous stuff when i was beginning to recover.

well i havent trained in over a week because I am recovering from a bad case of bronchitis. actually 3 days after being at the hospital, i had packed my gym bag, and thanks to some sound advice i got here on this board, i have taken a whole week off since. i think it has given my body the proper rest to fight off the infection. im going to hit the gym today and see how things go. id say it depends on how sick and how hard you want to train. listen to your body and dont be afraid to take a rest.:)

I find this very interesting, as I felt like shit Wed/thur/fri/ started taking Vit C and Vit E Friday Morn, and felt awesome Saturday.

Do you have any more info on this?

I've been sick off and on for 3 weeks now...and it sucks. Just can't shake this thing...

Wasn't it Arnold who said that if you are sick from the neck up...train. Sick from the neck down...rest.
