Is this good to do? I may do this occasionally if so, since I began working out in the mornings.

The last I heard it is beneficial as long as you work the same part you worked earlier that day.

...sure, that's what doing 2 sets is. Working the same bodypart twice in one day. Waiting a while (say, hours) between sets can be a way to manage fatigue.

arnold schwarzenegger did it...so why cant you

Because he is da man!

-Thanks for the replies guys. I was hoping it was still a beneficial thing to do.

Out of curiousity why would you do it? I really don't see a point to lifting the same muscle twice in one day. If your muscles are able to complete a hard second workout obviously you didn't bust them very well in your first workout. And if you didn't work them very well in the first workout then what was the point of even doing that workout. Which once again leads me to asking why you would train the same part twice in one day and not do 1 intense workout?

I used to do that but i would do 3 sets morning 3 sets at night. Or i would split up my workout and when i was doin back and bis back in the mornings bis at night. I have come to learn that they are right it is a waste of time. Arnold used to work out every body part 3 ties a week well all the roids he was on he could do that but i wouldn't suggest you do it unless you did half and half or was taking mad roids

Protobe, let's also keep in mind Arnold's genetics were a LOT of his success. The roids they had back then are miniscule compared to what is available today....

To answer the question, unless you're juicing then you're probably just asking for a one-way ticket to overtraining.....Strength training isn't about completely destroying the muscle to the point of no return. It's about breaking the muscle down, feeding it, resting it. Bashing one muscle group twice a day will not be beneficial IMO. Stick to one hard session per day and you will make the gains you want.

Look at it this way:

Is 24 hours long enough to give a muscle group to recover?

no

so is 12 hours long enough to give it to recover?

Its not like you dont start growing until the next day. As soon as you finish your last set, your body starts to try to rebuild the torn tissue...

Look at it this way:

Most people here perform multiple sets for a given muscle group. In fact, I'd think it's safe to say that the single-set people are in a small minority.

When you perform 2 sets for an exercise, have you recovered from the first set by the time you do the second? Not a chance.
Any set beyond the first is performed in an "unrecovered" state!

So does it really make any difference if you do 6 sets in one go or 3 in the morning and 3 at night? Methinks not.

Because I get a good workout in the mornings, then I come home in the afternoon and sometimes I have lots of energy and get a little bored, so I might want to workout then too.

I'm not saying I'm gonna do this all the time, but every now and then I might.

Yes sometimes I'm bored and want to lift but realize I'd be better off eating more than lifting again.

I did this for a while. Lifted heavy early in the day and then light later on. Only did it for about two weeks as kind of a shock treatment. Think it worked pretty well just remember being very tired every night.
