i'm very anti diamond myself.. after watching/reading about how these kids in Africa have to work in the mines for the rebels...and if they don't their arms are chopped off...and how is the US helping? nada...in Rwanda, Sierre Leone,....now the new thing is buy a certified non African diamond...and from what i read, the Debeers founder can never step foot onto US soil or be arrested..forgot why..
heck better way would be for both to get a band, maybe designed by both and rest go towards down payment on a home...who the f*&*) wants to get married, rent an apt/condo and have this expensive ring on her finger.....then save 5-7 more years to afford to buy a home...

There is a way they are getting around that "non-African Diamond" thing. I forgot how. I read an interesting case study on Debeers. Their diamonds are not even suppose to be sold in the U.S. But they are getting around that as well.

Also, Diamonds are WAY overpriced.

Diamonds are such a scam. They have no inherent value, are not traded as a commodity, etc.

The prices are kept high by a cartel, and are made profitable by using African kids to mine them for a dollar a week or something.

Russia has an assload of diamonds, but the cartel pays off the Russian government to limit the supply. They even paid off the USSR government.

A diamond is forever.

So is knowing that the ring you gave your girl was probably pulled from the Earth by a one armed African kid who had his other arm sliced off in a territorial war involving Ivory Coast and Liberian guerillas.

So is the fact that a handful of people have become insanely rich off of trading these things around the dead and malformed kids who mine them.

And on top of that, one or two technologicqal breakthroughs will drop the price of your $10K ring to about $11.79, when diamonds become the market equivalent of graphite.

But it's special. You love her.

Buy her a car instead.

I'd have no problem shelling out as much $$ as a car costs for a diamond ring if it was for a good girl (with a bad girl side in the bedroom ). It signifies a lasting commitment......so if for some reason the commitment didn't last, I'd be expecting it back anyways.
