woman's thyroid results

Guys i need some input on some thyroid results my girlfriend got back. I'm not sure if there is much i can do about it or not so ignore if you think it's run of the mill.

She has hypothyroid and has been on synthroid for the last 3 years now with really no change. She has changed her workout routine up like 4 times along with her diet but always stays about 1900 cals/day and works hard 5+ days/wk. The thing that makes me wonder is that she is always tired. I mean 14 hours of sleep is about right but if she get's 8 hrs a night she honestly just can't function.

Here's the latest thyroid results we got and they aren't making any changes to her meds at all:

TSH 1.60 uIU/ml (normal is 0.27-4.20)
T4 Thyroxin 8.7 mcg/ml (normal is 4.5-11.0)

She currently taking Synthroid 112 MCG 1 per day.

Right now coupled with the fatigue is the weight loss issue. She just can't lose weight at all. So i'm wondering what suggestions you guys might have. We're on the 3rd endocrinologist and they all are just giving the cookie cutter treatment.
Appreciate any advise you guys can offer up.

Those are the only 2 values listed on the sheet. I thought the TSH reading was T3, but i'm no doc.

WTH is the TSH reading anyways?

TSH stands for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. This is the horomone that tells the thyroid gland to secrete more T4. During hypothyroidism the levels are normall high, due to the body trying to get the gland to pump out more. Conversely during hyper they are low. T3 is the active form of thyroid hormone. She could have a faulty conversion of T4 to T3. Most docs won't touch a thyroid that's even slightly in the normal range. They like people with low normal levels. You need to find a more progressive doc.

Excellent, thanks so much for the input. I guess onto endocrinologist #4 now. Man i'm really starting to wonder when 2 decades of schooling pays off LOL

Yeah that's how it is with most docs. You'll find a good one eventually.
