With a Tie or without

Im going to a prom on friday and wearing a black suit,black dress shoes and a nice blue shirt to top it off, now Im wondering if not wearing a tie would be acceptable,I personally think it looks better and will show off my upper pecs and give me a sexier look then closing myself into a tie.

also Ill most likely end up to the tieless state by mid night as I aint dancing in no fucking tie.


so what are your ideas, tie for pictures etc then take it off, or no tie at all

I'd wear the tie, then take it off later.

You'll look good when you arrive, and then after a few drinks, when everyone is loosened up, you can lose the tie.

IMO, it's always better to err on the side of overdressed; there's nobody I feel more sorry for than the poor slob that came underdressed

Depends if, you have a full collar you should wear the tie for at least the pics. If you get a banded collared shirt than no tie needed.

Well for me it is what "picture" you want to show.
Meaning if you have the tie you project age,maturity and strength a serious type look.

No tie projects laid back,sexy,easy going, a go with the flow type of guy.

It is all what you want people to precieve you.

I am firm believer that clothes project alot about what you are trying to say and feel.

I think it all depends on where your Prom will be taking place. Some places are more formal then others. If it is a formal place then I would rent a tux. You don't want to look out of place while your are at the Prom.
What does your girl think you should wear?
If you do decide to wear the suit, then do as some of the others spoke of, show up in your tie. You can loosen it up as the night goes on, then eventually take it off, as well as your jacket. I would go with some kind of printed tie, something that shows who you are....have fun.

Wear the tie. Period. You want to appear respectful of such an occasion. Uncle Freedie never approved of taking the tie off during a party (I am of the opinion that we must all suffer for elegance if need be). But he gives you permission just this one time if it is a complete torment.
