Wish me luck on IT classes starting next week

Next Tuesday I start my prereq classes for my A+ certification (computer technician) and after that am heading into Network+. From there I am looking at probably becoming a webmaster with my CIW.....maybe I can get Mr. Spellwin to hook me up as an intern :) Anyway I'm a little nervous about all this, but ready to get started on the path to a new career. Wish me luck or tell me to go to hell...which ever floats your boat:D

Good luck winstrol, just have fun with it.

Good luck bro, I've studied for both exams just havent taken them yet. Where are you taking the classes at? University, tech school?

Winnie, I am also studying for my A+ Cert!
Damn, there's ALOT of material to study. I took a 10-week course, for 2 nights a week, 3 hours a night.
There's WAY too much to really digest and assimilate in 10 weeks, IMO.
What kind of class?

Good luck!
Get subnetting down pat. And all parts of TCP/IP for that matter. I'm leaving the IT industry for the medical field. Have fun and remember, porn and gaming push the technology in networking.

Alot of companies are looking for A+ for positions like help desk but you don't want to get stuck in that area for too long. After your present line up of IT courses I would suggest Unix and Cisco certs. These with a couple years of experiance will allow you to write your own ticket. A Navy buddy of mine has followed this road and is now raken in just over 80k annual. BTW he's 24.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

Peach-- thanks...I don't know about the genius part...I wish I had as much faith in me as you do:D Maybe after what we talked about in email the other day I could pair up the skills I learn and get into programming porn sites!!

Weapon X--well my classes range from a prereq of troubleshooting hardware/software to the actual A+ software module and the A+ hardware module. Between the three there are a total of 72 classroom hours. Most of the classes I am signed up for are 4 hours long 3 days a week. So, I probably have my work cut out for me. Oh well, I'm looking for a good challenge. Maybe you guys that are already studying for it can help me out now and again when I hit the wall.

PimpC-- I'm going through my local university, UNM

Furious-- ya I think getting into porn and gambling online will secure me a good future as opposed to a lot of the e commerce
stuff that's been going on.

Minion-- thanks for the advice...I have heard of similar situations where people are taking in a nice chunk of change for their talents....of course actual hands on experience under their belts does play a big role in what people are earning in the IT fields.

I hope you got real world experience to back up that cert! I have MCNE, MCSE, and CCIE certs and I can’t tell you how many A+ certified guys try to get a position with zero experience. Seriously do anything you can to get some experience, volunteer, intern whatever. Otherwise your just blowing money.

Maybe we can all help each other! My class was not nearly enough time to get all the material. Lots and lots of lists to memorize.

If you want to basically cheat a little you can order the exam essentials for the A+ and Net+. The questions on these practice tests are exactly like the real test questions. Each question has an explanation with info about the wrong answers, this way you will know why it was the wrong answer. I suggest buying these test and taking the tests to see where you stand and then go back and miss each question on purpose. This way you will learn why the correct answer is the best answer. Many of the actual test questions can be tricky. Like the MCSE tests the correct answer may not be one that is popular but that doesn't matter. What matters is what Microsoft views as the correct answer. I have taken some tests and they arent that bad. The CompTIA tests are pretty easy except the server+, not much study info or books out for that one yet.

The practice tests are about 20 to 30 bucks. Also I dont work for this company or get commissions for selling them. I just found they are better than many other practice tests, a lot cheaper also.

How was the hands on portion of the CCIE in California? Was told it gets hard when trying to complete everything in the time limit.

Ya, MN I have heard that experience really counts for a ton in the these types of jobs. I do plan on interning first. I would rather stay away from help desk as much as possible, but interning somewhere...especially if I get into the CIW area (interning) is what I'd like to do. I know those intern jobs don't pay jack, but like we said it's all about getting hands on in the actual field that will eventually lead to better salaries. About the money, well it isn't actually coming out of my pocket. The company I worked nine years for filed for bankruptcy this year and I qualify for aid through the department of labor. They have funded me up to seven thousand for schooling.

Just to cover my own ass, we did not talk about porn. Pooh!

:D

I am leaning more towards web programming instead of just designing. More money.

The CCIE hands on is absolutely insane! I passed with flying colors. I wouldn't say I'm making mad cash It's decent but not outlandish.

I thought the average base pay with the CCIE was around 100 grand a year. Thats not an insane amount but pretty good depending on where you live (state).
