wireless users.... little help?

So I got a linksys DSL router/wap and everything works fine

Except for a couple of problems.

1. I can't get the installation cd to run(it works anyway). so I don't know what/if I need to set channal wise and what not.

2.signal strength is exellent.. if I'm right next to the router then drops to low when I move a room over.(is this normal?)

3. since I gave up on sharing folders between computers(shit just does not work for me) I use yahoo instant mess. to move files back and forth.

My desktop is wired, my laptop is not.

I can't send songs TO my laptop, but I can send songs FROM my laptop??

says file is to big??

I don't know. got the linksys wireless 2.4ghz g and I can go all over my house and still get decent signal strength. Connect up to my pc to transfer files etc. Depends on what os you have.

I do know that you have to install exactly as they say or it won't work.

My signal fades pretty regular, but luckily I can surf thru my neighbors connection too.

I actually took my laptop with me today while I ran errands.

I wanted to see if I could sniff out some networks.
