ok i have win xp pro edition..... lately i've been having problems with my roomate signing on my computer (i gave him to logon PW so he can access email, and dont want to change it on him) and downloading a bunch of porn.... not so much downloading actual pics... but the sites he visits reset my homepage.... and download porno 900 number dialers and everything.... its a real PITA.

my password when i log on logs me into my admin account...

how do i create another one that he can use which locks all programs except maybe word and ie explorer.... and also restrict the sites he can visit by only allowing 1 or 2 sites to be viewed, Ie. out university homepage.

i turned the guest feature on, but it doesnt give me any options to edit what can be viewed.

HELP PLEASE!

right, but it doesnt give me any options to restrict anything

yes it does

the guest group is pretty restricted as is - and he will have his own entire profile and won't be able to see your stuff -he can save bookmarks and such all in there.

or you can create a whole new group and give it whatever access you want, and then make him a user in that group.

ok well, once i create his group.... we'll call it "other" then where do i go?

this is what i'm doing

control panel>user accounts>"other" (limited account) = all i can do from there is change name, pw, picture, account type, and delte account

I'm not sitting on an xp system right now - my xp system is in an apt that I don't even live in anymore... long story.

but trust me - I set this up on my system at home, it is easy and intuitive... at least to me.

Ah I had that problem with Win 98 already. What happened in my case is I had differant versions of office programs installed. For example I had disc 1 of prefessional and disc 2 of small buisness. Its a security things to prevent pirated software but I just had a buddy burn me a good set. PM me if you have any questions

This will happen if using different versions of microsoft as well, for example frontpage 98 and office 2000 are incompatible, and will cause system freezups(blue screens of death)and overall instability.

But it is possible to do a partial reinstall without overwriting what you have saved on your puter, windows will do "touch ups", I have done partial OS reinstalls in the past when I have stupidly allowed myself to get a virus(was playing with a program I didn't have the knowledge level for, and for my above example of 98 and 2000 conflicts. You shouldn't have to do a complete OS install. If you need assistance with it, go to

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/install/reinstallmain.htm

there are other sites that will help, just depends on what options you want to take...you can also download a few repair utilities at Zdnet. and cnet.com that can help you.
