I'm pretty sure Xp stands for experience. I like XP. It has all the user features for a normal user and the stability of win2k. If you wanna get past the whole registering thing all you have to do is find someone with an OEM copy of XP that has been out for a while now and it has noe expiration date on it.

I am running xp at home, and I personally don't like it and will go back to win2kpro (I had server before), but that's not to say that it isn't good - I just have enough important shit on my system that I can't have it crashing that much (under win2k, I never had it crash, and occassionally could make a program crash - under zp I've never had it crash - it just reboots when it isn't happy... at least the reboot round trip is faster now)

XP is simply the first step towards .NET, which will change software licensing forever.

Subscription based licenses. IT managers will no longer have to worry about upgrading nor will they have to worry about tracking licenses.

But the consumer will feel the pinch for sure. Want to get the latest security patch? Gotta be current on your subscription. Want to load new font sets into Word? Gotta be current on your subscription.
