Will it soon be impossible to destroy humanity

Nathan & Samoth's thread got me thinking. Since technolgoical growth is so fast will we soon reach a point where no matter what happens civilization will survive due to the fact that we can adapt so rapidly to any/every threat? No matter if it is germ warfare, asteroids, or massive wars we will have the ingenuity and tools to pick up and start again. In 30 years we may have the ability to make a vaccine against a new virus in a day, instead of a few years like it currently takes. Some people look forward to the day when DNA is replaced with LAN operated microscopic hard drives, so genes can be switched instantly by uploading new ones. Save the sun exploding and becoming a black hole or the world being shot with gamma rays (we may even survive that if we live underground) could human civilization soon reach a point of permanent existence?

education is up
income is up

science is up
most taxes go to responsible social investments

I believe just the opposite is true. At some point we'll have a civilization-ending catastrophe. It won't be anything slow over time (i.e. global warming). I'm guessing cosmic event (some star goes ultranova, comet hits Earth, etc. et.c) or a man-mad disaster (i.e. 25 high-yield nukes detonated at once that chain reacts through the atmosphere or a genetically-engineered biological weapon escapes). It's really just a matter of time. We could do more to control the proliferation of nukes and germ warfare technology, but I don't see the will to do that right now.

Hopefully we'll be set to colonize somewhere else (i.e. the moon).

Pretty soon they'll be a write up in popular mechanics on how to create low grade fission in your basement........in fact, my friends dad has a unique solution to the middle east......give every 4th muslim male a suitcase nuke.......than sit back and watch the satellite feed......

But as tech. progresses we will be better able to avoid & overcome these disasters. We are on the brink of being able to push asteroids out of earth's orbit so they do not hit us. And as we learn the secrets of biology surviving something like a gamma ray explosion or nuclear war will be much easier.

And with humans spread out all over space it'll be near impossible to stop all of them. We will be invincible as a species soon, within 100 years.

One o' the ones that uses the Bible. But it just says 'the generation that sees the coming together of the nation' - so what length of generation? Bible mentions 40, 70, 100, 120 and 900 as generation lengths. Pick the one you like, I guess!
