Wide stance squats and knees

anthrax

I tried a wider than usual stance when doing back and front squat and I've felt a quite sharp pain in the "inside" of the knees/inner thigh

What's that ?

Probably means your knee's aren't tracking over your toes like they're supposed to. This could mean your knees are caving in on the descent or ascent.

The wider you go you need to make sure your toes are flared outwards enough "OR" you need to make a real effort to push yor knees out to the sides so they track properly. A good example of this would probably be a westside type of squat. Very wide stance with toes not flared much, but they make a point of really concentrating on pushing the knees out to the sides.

ghetto beat me to it. you probably let your knees buckle in during the squat. best way that i can describe it is to open your groin up on your descent

You're plain right guys

I'm pretty sure my knees tend to cave in on the concentric part (even though I try to avoid that)

I'll need to fix that issue

You can do hip abduction and adduction. One of the best ways i found was to wrap a mini around my knees while sitting, ass has be lower than your knees, and flare out.

Also, on speed squats and speed deads, use an ultra wide stance, this will incorporate your hips more and strengthen them. On your deads, be careful your feet don't slide, I dropped 365 on the side of my foot last week, it felt REAL GOOD!

as silly as this sounds, I love that hip abduction machine. yeah yeah...the girl one. but once I added those in every so often, my knees don't dip in on the heavy sets. be ready though, for a couple days after, the old cheeks will be tender.

i was actually messing around with my bands the other day while i was bored, and doubled a mini around my thighs, and was doing that. the mini's felt easy, so i used my lights. this exercise i think would be great for an extra work out. or something to do if you are sitting around and just watching TV.

sorry to hear about you dropping the weight on your foot when deadlifting. i bet the tickled! do you normally do a sumo dead? i just switched from a conventional to a sumo today. i felt a lot stronger in the sumo stance than i do in the conventional.
