This thread ignores a more important underlying question and that is whether it's ever appropriate to resort to physical violence to settle a dispute.
It's pretty widely recognized by the law and most ethical codes that it is not and even in the case where it is permitted, war, it is regulated by certain rules (thus the horror of terrorism). Even in the case of most attacks, as in the attack on a cop, the response is strictly regulated. One first attempts to contain an attacker.
What seems to occur in this thread is a covert legtimizing of violence between men despite ethical sanctions against it -- for the simple reason that it occurs. Then some of you turn around and legitimate its use with women with an argument that basically says that if they act like men they should be subject to the same violations of ethical restraints. Because women, like men, become violent, they are treated violently, the argument goes. This may be true but it doesn't actually legitimate the use of violence.
Feminisim does not argue that women share men's physical strength. The horrifying incidence of domestic violence, which is hugely more of men on women, is related to misogyny, just as its eroticizing in porn is.
Men can box and play soccer and women can mud-wrestle and join the roller derby. But the actual commission of violent acts should never be sanctioned.
