Why the hell is Roadrunner doing this

I just got rid of my bellsouth dsl and got a roadrunner cable modem. Speed has definitely increased but what I'm worried about is that my ports have been getting hit 15-20 times per day from these guys. I'm talking everything from tcp, udp, and even ftp. I emailed them and they never responded. I finally called them and the guy made up the lame excuse that the code red virus is still lingering and they are making sure that their customers aren't vulnerable. Tell me that isn't some bullshit. What reason would they have to scan every one of my ports through multiple protocols?

As far as the code red virus goes that is BULLSHIT. The Magistra virus came after that I believe and Mcaffee 4.3 can clean that. Are you using Netscape or IE?

IE 6 with XP pro. This guy I talked to was stimbling over his words so bad I was about to call his bullshit but kept my cool. I know their up to something which is why I'm thinking about cancelling the damn thing.

Can I ask what you're worried about?

I can understand the principle of the thing, but XP includes some decent security features, and you can add a personal firewall on top of that if you want to.

What do you think they're up to?

Just curious...

I don't know what they're up to which is why I'm worried. Maybe it's just paranoia but I don't like the fact that someone is hitting my ports that often. Once I see my ports are getting hitting that often I usually cut off all access for a day at least due to the fact that I know some little punk is trying to get in.

Well, if it's any consolation, my buddy ran a test on his SBC DSL connection and he was getting portscanned too.

I've got DSL, and I disconnect every few days so I get a new IP, and other than that, I don't worry too much about it.

I look at it this way: what the hell are they going to get if they get into my PC? Nothing I care a whole lot about, and nothing that'll get me in trouble. Yeah, they might crash it, but so what? I'll just format and reload.

Another buddy of mine is running McAfee's personal firewall, and he loves it. He has to take it down for gaming tho.

Yeah I got the same shit response here also. Bastards.

My cable ISP provider scans my ports constantly... I have a firewall so it doesn't bother me. Apparently it's illegal to run an FTP server with their service so they scan to make sure you're not. If I was running one then obviously I'd be a bit scared.
