I wanted to share these with you. I hope someone will be helped that is having computer issues for unknown reason and wants thier problem fixed will be helped here.
These are some free infection cleaning sites that I've tested and seem to give the user a wide variety of options as far as what is detected and what the scanner considers an infection. Use these if your computer is not working and you do not trust the software installed on your machine. Generally if you get a bad virus it will destroy your anti virus / system restore and hijack into your shell , msconfig, or csrss to where it is restarted every time the computer boots. Unfortunately Macafee's solution is simply. Dont let any programs hijack or inject code into other processes and do let software execute code from temp dirs. This also stops real software from running. Unfortunately due to the design and programming practices of Microsoft and Windows software developers , there isn;t much way of differentiating real software from malware.....
Anyway...
http://housecall65.trendmicro.com This is the only one which supports Sun Jre so this one can use firefox / seamonkey as well as IE . It's also has the most configuration options
http://onecare.live.com This URL will performance tune , defrag , virus scan and detect open ports due to software that is intentionally and unintentionally installed
http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml# F-Secure is more geared towards server systems but here an end user program that cleans tracking cookies and is pretty anal about what it considers malicious code and what is not.
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html Probably the most anal of them all. Also I have found that these guys internet security suits has the most features and uses the least system resources of the internet security suites I've tested. I would definitely recommend these guys's software if you accidentally click something you were supposed to. The most features for the lowest price is right here Sorry to sound like ann advertisement
http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp Macafee free scan is also an anal scanner that will help clean infections from your PC.
*edit*
I misunderstood something with this scanner. This one will only scan the windows directory, the C drive, and "My Documents" If you have scsi and things split onto multiple drives like mym main machine, this is not really effective.
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner Kapersky is somewhat unknown to most. This scanner will scan , but you have to manually remove the infections. Not effective for newies, but it gives you control to "regsvr32 /u "and delete at your discretion.
*edit*
Offline scanner... The stinger tool. You can download this and put it on a USB drive. Boot the PC into safe mode and run this tool. It may save you from having to wipe and reinstall...
