Why Steroids are Misplaced as a Schedule III Drug in the US

I believe that it was Thomas Jefferson that said that government was not to protect people from themselves.

A little fact that I saw on the history channel the other night. The supreme court up until the past 80 or 90 years took the view that it was a violation of the constition (personal freedom) to make drugs illegal. Interesting huh... You know why they said drugs were made illegal. The government was worried that people would not work and become worthless so they went on a P.R. campaign to paint the worst possible picture of drugs. I personally dont even drink much less do any hard drugs, but I believe if someone wants to get fucked up it is their business and their business only. Is some stoner really a threat to society deserving of 5 years in prison?? I don't think so. I am more worried about terrorist and things that threaten my life.

Imagine if drugs were legal and taxed. Bye Bye drug dealers. Bye Bye drug related gang crime. Hello to enormous new tax revenue. No more prison overcrowding. I am a realist though and understand that I will probably never live to see this day. But, just think about it for second. Interesting thought huh...

Don't get me wrong,,, I love this country,,, it is the greatest to me and I would not want to live anywhere else to be frank. But I do see a lot of our liberties and personal rights going to the wayside so some senator can get relected for the 10th time. Why do they not listen to what we have to say. Maybe it is a lesson in democracy for all of us. How many of us make our views aware to our representatives much less vote. I would dare say that it is very few. If our opinions were voiced to our representatives we could have some pull and if they did not, just vote the guy out of office. Hell before you know it Stackers and pro hormones are going to cost you a prison sentance. What are we doing about it? Nada

Just my 2 cents

Very excellent words my man

yes its pretty ironic that anyone even possessing small amts of steroids, a non-physically addicting substance, can go to jail because they are scheduled like this, but anyone over 21 can go in and buy alcohol which is can be one of the worst physical addictions on the planet, count how many die from steroid withdrawl and then count how many die from alcohol withdrawl, we have some pretty fucked up laws!

They tried to make alcohol illegal once. The results were almost as disasterous as the "war on drugs."

you can pass the blame on most of this...

to overzealous defense lawyers looking to get their client off with temporary insanity due to AS because he went apeshit and beat his wife or a stranger who cut him off on the road.

also, blame Steve Courson (ex lineman for the Bucs) who went public -even to 60 minutes with his exposure of steroids because he had to have a heart transplant. The liberal media feed on this shit and lobby groups get started and here we are....

Also forgot to mention that asshole Dr. William Fredericks(?) that pushed for this to be passed thru congress. He wrote a big bullshit book too but forgot the name.

I'm sorry... I'm totally unaware of "addicitiveness" being a quality for setting a drugs placement on the schedule list. Can you link to this criteria.

I was always under the impression that the "schedule" was based on "propensity for abuse" and "lack of legitimate medical use."

The only class of drugs that has a lack of medical use in this country are Schedule I drugs. All the other scheduled drugs have medical uses.

DeepZenPill is right. The potential for addiction/dependancy/abuse potential (whatever you want to call it) is the reason why some perscription drugs are scheduled in a certain class. They go hand in hand in many ways. Many of these addictions start out harmless.

For example, someone breaks their ankle or hurts their foot or something. He goes to the doctor and is perscribed some Vicodin for the pain for a few weeks. After their foot gets better, they no longer recieve the script. But the patient liked the drug so much he starts looking elsewhere for it to get that "high" or euphoric feeling again. Eventually, he may find a friend who has some extra pain killers laying around and he gets those. Then his buddy knows a drug dealer who gets them from time to time and starts getting them that way, etc. It's a rollercoaster ride, and if it gets bad enough, he will start taking 10+ pills a day at which point is dangerous and the person may require detox to come off of them. It all started at the doctor's office. With this in mind, which has more potential for abuse? Steroids or narcotic painkillers? I would think it's a no-brainer for most of us. And they are in the same class!

According to the government, this is less likely to happen with Xanax and Valium (Class IV drugs) and going to detox, more likely to happen with Lorcet and Vicodin (Class III drugs) and going to detox, and very likely to happen with Oxycontin and Methodone (Class II drugs) and going to detox. Class I drugs like Cocaine and Heroin have no medical uses in this country.

The point is, I don't see where steroids fall into any of this. And even if you wanted to say steroids are "abused" by a select few, what about other more dangerous things that are abused by a great many people such as cigarettes and alcohol which are legal?

This is supposed to be the land of the free but this country limits people's rights more than Canada, England, Mexico, and several other european countries and Australia too. What's up with that?!

I'll say it again, I love this country but I'm tired of the whitest white people running the country to shit for there own 4-8 year term. You want America to be happy, LEAVE US THE FUCK ALONE!!! Worry about the 6'6" terrorist who killed over 3,000+ people who is making this government look like fucking assholes cause we can't find him. Or Hussien who is hanging out with bin laden laughing it up at the so-called superpower, where the only power our government shows is how to fuck their own.

I'm sick and tired of people banning shit because a couple of people used it wrong or shouldn't have used it at all. Do they ban cigs and alcohol NO, WHY? cause they make money off it. More people die and kill others in alcohol and tabacco related issues than with guns and steroids combined. (This isn't factual but I'm sure I'm close)

Sorry folks, I just had my Dennis Miller rant.
