is healthy food so freakin´expensive here  Spent over hour at food store, reading labels and comparing prices. Junk food would cost so much less

How much is your montly food bill?

My last one was $209.34, but I also went nutso with Aveeno Products :)

Oh, let's not go there! I'm going to take ChefWide's advice and start buying things in bulk. I'm looking to get a BJ's club card this weekend.

Hmmmmm, you know -- I don't know how much I spend per month.... about $15 weekly on fresh veggies & about $200 a month maybe....

I have a pantry + a large standing freezer + a fridge with top freezer + a basement with a pantry shelf ---> so I buy in bulk & store a lot of dried goods/frozen things...

I scan the grocery store ads & buy multiples of what's on sale to store....

But I agree -- I don't understand why healthy food is so darn expensive...

Not too bad for me, I spend most of my money on chicken, tuna and Fish. all my carb sources are fairly cheap... brown rice, sweet potato, Oats, and veggies.. either fresh or the birds eye mix.

I don't tally up what I spend a month... I'd prolly panic.. LOL I eat alot of chicken and Talipia.

Fresh veggies are so expensive here now, that I´ll wait for summer when they get cheaper. Also tuna and chicken are expensive :(

I buy my chicken, steak, turkey patties, eggs & fish in bulk at Costco. I also usually get the 2.5 lb bag of spinach, romaine hearts & red peppers there. This all works fine & dandy until the freezer decides to take a dump & I have to wait 3 days for the repair guy to come.....

A tip for you is that when the fruits & veggies are in season & cheap is to can or freeze them to use in the winter.... Take a spare closet to turn into a pantry for storage.... Make sauces, etc out of fresh veggies & freeze....

I usually just buy frozen veggies now when on sale..... if you have time, shop around....

will have to try it, I'm getting sick of tuna and chicken all the time. :chomp:

I just recently tried Tilapia and it was GREAT!! Seasoned with Cajun Spice....

Highly recommended...

Tilapia encrusted wm some kind of nuts is insane!! Just steam some veggies and Voila! Love Ahi too!!! I make it w/ some Italian salad dressing or a little soy sauce and ginger. Even better is lemon pepper seasoning. Ok so I like to cook a bit.

I buy healthy stuff for myself and a fair amount of junk for my husband. Our grocery bill is usually around $400 a month. All of that lean protein really adds up though. Meat is so much more expensive than it used to be.

Buying things in bulk at Sam's / Costco / BJs is PERFECT.

Even if you don't buy meat there, you cna buy a HYUGE thing of Oatmeal, a big bag of plain almonds, veggies - for a LOT cheaper than the grocery store.

Hubby and I let our Sam's membership expire, but will renew soon.

I've noticed about a month or so ago, that fresh items were sky rocketing. Simple things such as green peppers, lemons, and stuff like that. Then I had to remember all the hurricane's that Fla experienced last year, and that the increases are prolly a direct result of them. But, for the most part to eat healthier has always been more EXPENSIVE. Nowadays you gotta pay for EVERYTHING just to live.
