Why not carbs before bedtime...

Ok, I would like to hear everybody:s opinion on this. Why is carbs "bad" before bedtime?? To remain my bodyweight I, lets say, would have to eat 3000calories per day. Lets say that 1000 of these comes from carbs. If I choiced to consume 400 of these 1000calories from carbs just before bedtime, It wouldn't make me fatter, or put on more fat, then if I consumed these total of 1000 before lets say 18:00hours (6 o'clock in the evening)???? What do you say?

I don't think carbs are necessarily bad before bedtime.

If you workout late, eat carbs late because the exercise will raise your insulin sensitivity. If you don't, then try to minimize carbs and make them very low GI. This is solely because insulin sensitivity seems to be lower as the body gets ready to sleep. A small amount of low-GI carbs is perfect, though --- just not as much or as high GI as early in the day or pre/post workout.

I also think that a high level of activity - even just standing or cooking - will minimize the insulin response to carbs. I haven't read this in a book or anything, though. I just assume so, since I know that insulin is suppressed during exercise.

yes, insulin sensitivity is lower at night.

if one is cutting very low GI carbs before bed is no problem. when bulking you can eat moderate GI carbs all day long.

One thing to keep in mind is that your body secretes GH when you sleep. By eating lots of carbs before bed you could delay or minimze the GH that is released.

Also your GI tract begins to shut down at night so nutrients from food may not be absorbed.
