There are a lot of people who start practicing a sport just to give up a few weeks/months/years later (who ever played tennis, soccer, etc ?)

On the other hand there a lot of people who are into lifting (BBing, PLing) for years are emotionally and physically addicted to it, making "it" more than just a sport

They are addicted to the endorphin high, the respect , the confidense and the extra attention it gives them by having a well toned and sculpted physique. In other sports, you dont get as much attention as you do in bodybuilding.

lol

I completely disagree...professional footballers, basketballers, baseballers get a lot more respect/props/girlie action than any pro bb'er (accept arnie).

Even collegiate athletes would get more attention/props/girlie action than the average bb'er

Yes, but you are talking about pro status here or high ranked amateurs. I didnt include pros or amateurs. When they go out in public, they will not get looked at as much or get as many complimets as bodybuilders will unless they are a pro or an amateur athlete. A regular bodybuilder who is a nobody, but has great deffinition and shape can go out and get complements by total strangers weather its at the beach, the mall or the clubs.

Agree w/ Patrick Steele,

I'm not talking about pros but the average Joe

Who play basketball a couple of days a week for 10-20 years ?

BTW, I guess you're right (PS): it's all about brain chemicals
If I don't have my endorphins/dopamine/serotonin shot I feel like shit

I didn't know looks mattered that much to women :S

According to my experience, money matters MUCH MUCH more than looks to women. Most women are gold diggers weather they admit it or not. Looks does help with the one night stands which I have no problem with. But for long term relations, women will always go for the dude with the money over the minimum wage worker if they had the chance. And don't listed to what women tell you.

Just as I had thought. I've seen this way too many times too.
Yeah I was talking to a girl about it yesterday and she denied that fact...despite the fact that all the guys she's gone out with are richer (we're still in school - these guys didn't earn their money yet).

Bodybuilding is a lifestyle not a sport. What we do for bodybuilding goes beyond training for 1 or more hours...We eat/sleep accordingly. Then there's setting new goals etc, we're never satisfied.

Bingo! Bodybuilding is a lifestyle. Financially bodybuilding isn't lucrative whatsoever, but the passion, drive, desire, and dedication to push our bodies is overwhelming. I do it because I truly love it, am good at it, and yes I'll admit, I like to look great. Too many fatties and out of shape people around and I like sticking out like a sore thumb. ;)

Those that are addicted to BB'ing/PWL'ing enjoy pushing their bodies above and beyond the norm. The challenge of taking ourselves to another level is a rush. I'm sure we all have some kind of complex as well. lol

cuz bodybuilding is a good way to stay out of trouble and also learn to take care of my body instead of totally fuck it up+ plus self confidence

wasnt for sports and shit id problay be an E-TARD

BB'ing is more than a sport, it is a lifestyle. This is the first and foremost reason why so many people treat it as such an integral part of their lives. It is about making you, your body, mind, soul, etc., better. Everything else, as they say, is just details.
