Why is Heating Oil Still So Expensive?

I Told You So ...

My memory is not the greatest but it seems to me that gas is cheaper, or at the very least the same price it was this time last year.

Heating oil, however, is more than $0.10 over what it was at last year's highest.

Does anybody know why?

Here's something for you....

"Over the bridge" gas has gone down 36 cents
On this side of the bridge it has remained the same - go figure - or actually that falls into the if you can get more for it - get more for it because people will pay more.

the "bridge" is local joke and not really a REAL bridge like getting in and out of NYC but more like "the other side of town".

If you are going to heat with oil then buy a 2nd tank and buy in July.

Oil was even more expensive THEN! It's gone down five cents since that time (I kid you not).

Converting to another system is extremely impractical for me dollar wise, a new furnace is on the checkoff list but everything comes down to $$$ (I can't even afford to replace the existing tank I HAVE and am praying it will hold together for another year). Lately every time I start getting money together something comes along and cuts our legs out from under us, and we were doing so well until last April then everything went to utter shit.

Where I live in the mid Atlantic region the main form of heat is 1) oil 2) natural gas. Propane is VERY rare, coal is unheard of and solar is not practical for my house (1/2 of a twin, and again, $$$ to convert). Moving is not an option currently, either.

shit shit shit ... I can't catch a break in a bucket.

I'm in the same region.

If you look at it, oil is still the cheapest option right now due to effeciency gains from oil heating. The cheapest improvement you could make is expanding your current holding tank system.
