I’m finally going to hand in my application form to try to get into the force. One of the questions was “Why do you wish to become a Police Officer”. Below is what I have written up and I was hoping you could tell me if it is appropriate. Also if there are any changes you would suggest or additional information I could add. Thanks a lot… btw im 18/m

Being in the academy is something I’ve considered wanting to be involved in for years and gradually over time to the present it has become one of my top priorities and is one of the things I most want to do. I’ve looked into other similar jobs, such as criminology or forensics, but from talking to other officers and workers in those fields, this appeals to me most.

Like I said before, I’ve talked to many officers to see from first hand experience what it’s like and what’s involved and it is something I know I would really enjoy doing. As we know, “A happy worker is a good worker”.

As preparation I’ve been going to the gym for the past year improving my strength and fitness. I’ve started learning the martial art of Aikido “The Art of Peace” and I’ve got the required first aid certificate. Although I’m only on my provisional drivers license I do drive around as much as I can, to improve my driving skills. I have not broken the law before and have a clean record.

Even if I don’t get into the force this time I will keep all this up and try again in the near future. So it isn’t something I will give up on straight away, this is pretty much my dream job and is what I want to do as my career.

but why is the question. Not to be a happy worker. I mean do you feel an urge to help the community and give something back to it? Does it interest you with all the fields it covers? You need to search for the most basic answer to the question and THAT IS WHAT YOU GIVE and RECIEVE, BESIDES GETTING A GUN OR A NICE CAR.

addition

I was unlucky enough to have a relatives life ended because of an unlawful act caused by someone else. I’ve experienced crime before and know how it can affect ones life and family. Upholding the law I know I can prevent such things happening to other families.

Albeit may be small I can make a difference and knowing that I have made a difference will defiantly make me a better person. The uniform means nothing, a cop comes from the heart. If I can protect or change one person, I will have done my part.

You´re not going to save the world by becoming a cop.

Don´t have any illusions. You´ll just become embittered by your inability to "help" everybody.

Have you submitted this yet? Your first sentence needs some restructuring, this one here "Being in the academy is something I’ve considered wanting to be involved in for years and gradually over time to the present it has become one of my top priorities and is one of the things I most want to do". Reword that my good man. Also, they could care less about Aikido, the sacred art of peace. Then you wrote "a cop comes from the heart", that sounds juvenile, don't use the word "cop". Lastly you wrote this as well "Although I’m only on my provisional drivers license I do drive around as much as I can, to improve my driving skills". Man, they are going to read that and say "what in the name of Buddah on a moped is this kid smoking?" First, I have little respect for any police officer, there are a "few" who actually represent the job in a proper and moral fashion, very fucking few. You want to become an officer of the law because you believe in the ideals that law enforcement is supposed to represent and uphold (to protect and serve), build your answer along that. peace and good luck!

Havoc said what I was going to. The first sentence is a run on. Some of your info is kiddy info that shows your greenness in life(no flame). I'd go with the explanation of what happened to the family member and how it effected you and how you want to try to keep it from happening to others. Then don the batsuit and chase crime.
