why good meals and sleep are important

I practice gymnastics/acrobatics/breakdancing/martial arts with a friend of mine every monday and wednesday. We expierienced how important sleep and good nutrition is to physical preformance in a very mesuarable way today.

We were both up till about 12:00 the night before working on an assignment due for a class we have. Then were both up around 7:00. I had a light breakfast, just some cereal and ran out the door. Although i felt more tired than usual in the morning i eventually woke up and returned to what felt like my normal state. Im usually quite agressive with my eating. I try for 10 good meals a day and about 400g's of protien with a good breakfast. My training partner had skipped on good food in the morning as well.

However we both felt fine during class, but it wasnt untill our practice session that you could actually see the diffrence in our preformance.

Our wall jumps (involves running up a wall and spin kicking off of it) had decreased 6 inches each in distance. We are both pretty equal in skill and regularly manage to clear a line weve placed on the floor as our bench mark. by about 6 inches each. This time we were falling short of it consitantly by 6 inches.

In addition we had less strength to try and learn new skills, less power as well. but the distance from the wall jump really gave a measure of how important food is for succsesful rounds of physical activity.

I would have to afree with that. Most bodybuilders and atheletes understand that nutrition is jsut as important as training when it comes to gaining muscle mass and lossing body fat. It should be common sense that one's performance is directly impacted by one's fuel source (ie food), and how rested one is. Sometimes it needs to be said again as a reminder though.

too many people overlook it. knowing that eating right and sleep are important and actually doing something about it are two very different things. its something i know i have to get in check but i find myself still not eating the way i should for optimal gains, and it shows.
