]part time devil here ,just got out of the military, will be working as a trainer full time soon I hope I dont get burned out being in the gym all day!

i dont get burned out being in the gym...i get burned out with some of the things i have to do when im not training clients. i love to train people. its a creative challenge each time because they have different limitations, goals, and habits than i do. i have to think outside of the things i do for myself and apply my experience and knowledge to their situation. keeps me thinking in different avenues and ultimately helps my training. i get new approaches and training techniques that i throw in to make my own workouts interesting, different and fun. ive broke away from the monotonous.

to the younger bro, go for it. people will listen to you if you can substantiate what you say. if you are not eloquent in explaining something then you may lose credibility but if you can thoroughly explain something in many different ways (to cover the variety of people you will deal with) you are set. some older folks like younger people just because of their high energy levels.

roidjunkie, im sure you are seeing that it takes a while to establish a good client base. i have been "full time" for a while now, but it is primarily part time. it takes time and hopefully you have some financial padding coming out of the service. once your face gets known and you talk to a few people....those people talk to others and you get a reputation. establish a good rep, and you are set.

peace

well here are my reasons, im 5'6-5'7 165 and im 16,nobdoy will listen to a teen because adults are under the impression that we know it all,i could do it because i have researched alot of training techniques,i think if some of us guys did do it then pt's would get a better name
Oak,
It doesn't get much better with age. I'm 24 and have only been doin it for a year. EVERYONE, thinks they know more than you. Fat, greasy, double-chinned heifers think they know more. "Yeah, I know I gotta lose weight, but I know exactly how. I'll do it when I'm ready." I went to college, got a nationally recognized certification, and have done a ton of research and reading on training techniques, but you know what? EVERYONE STILL KNOWS MORE THAN I DO. Once in a while, you get someone who you truly help change their life and that's the only thing that keeps me going.
You probably do know more than typical trainers. Most don't do continuing education and think a pathetic ACE test justifies their existence.

I started training people when I was 18 which was 15 years ago.I have been training people off and on while I have been in the army .I love the gains I watch them make .I got the ISSA cert. .....the army paid for it.I have 4 clients already waiting for me in fla .I agree I am sure its going to take a while to make it FULL time but the love I have (or sickness)for training is worth the work and time.I think I will work out at a diff.gym than I train at.BIGNATE do you work out at the place you train people, asking me ques. while I work out would drive me nuts that 60 to 90 min. has to be my time only.

lol

thanks FD, my first cert was ACE. :p make a brotha feel good.

they teach you how to cover your ass liabilitywise though. but there was dick about training program design etc. i am actually almost due to have my CEC's done...i havent done shit for it. i may just go and get a different cert. maybe go grab an issa one. the prize would be ACSM. thats a tough one.

i agree with you though.
husbands that will help their wives workout

former "high school heroes" just getting back into it.

new gym members that think that starting back in is going to make the biggest difference and dont need training cause "something is better than nothing".

one sided individuals. cardio queens, weightpit junkies. etc. (not well rounded)

you will see so many scenarios with these characters.

i love to go up to seemingly fit people and pick apart their form. i do it in a manner that is nonthreatening but gets them thinking. i had a competitive rower the other day doing lat pulldowns behind the neck with some sort of ab crunch at the end. she threw an attitude with me at first....by the end of my explanation she was doing lat pulldowns effectively for her training. hehehehe.

yeah. i dont interrupt people much on the floor, unless im prospecting. my question time is when they set up an appt with me to go over their goals. i understand completely about it being "their time". but i will talk to those performing unsafe maneuvers. most of the time they dont know better. i dont try to sell them anything, just show them a different way of doing things (if they are open to it) and i move on.

wow, i hope i didnt come off as a knowitall dick. im really rather humble when talking to people, and even less pushy. very helpful. even had people write to corporate about my helping them.

i read what i wrote before....i may have come off "cocky"

thanks bro!
its kindof pricey but if i can kill 2 birds with 1 stone. CEC's and another cert. ill be ahead of the game either way. i may do the fitness therapy cert. since i do deal with people with limitations and would like to be more knowledgeable in that aspect.

I'm sorry nate, mine was too. You're right about the liability thing. I swear that's all I got tested on. Go for the ACSM. Definitely a good one. I'm studying for NSCA's CSCS. Its getting some good recognition and the reading is great so far. You study any of Charles Poliquin or Ian King? These guys' books have helped me tremendously in regards to designing exercise programs.
