Why does the government do this?

Whats the reason they do this?

Why do they "take" money from our weekly paychecks. But then take A WHOLE LOT MORE on April 15?

What? Taking a little bit each week for fucking 52 weeks wasn't enough?! They still want more on April 15? WTF???

Lol you guys would be even more fucked if that money wasn't coming off your checks ever month. Took you fucking geniuses forever to figure out people with a higher income should be paying more than everyone else who makes less.

Psssst...

Those making more have income withheld from every paycheck and they have to make quarterly payments.

And even with those quarterly estimates, it doesn't mean you don't have to send in a check on tax day.

Those GSE junkets in Las Vegas aren't going to pay for themselves...

All kidding aside, I think they should go the other direction. It should be illegal for employers to deduct taxes from your paycheck. At the end of each year, each taxpayer should have to write a check for the full amount due in taxes. Things would be different under that system.

If you did it that way, you would have a lot of people who didn't save the right amount and would owe Money

If you did it that way, you would have a lot of people who didn't save the right amount and would owe Money

It would force people to actually be responsible with their paychecks and save the appropriate amount of money for taxes.

Plus, it would make it harder to hide taxes in withholdings -- everyone would see what they paid more transparently.

Boo fucking hoo, if people had to cut one big check to the IRS once a year, our tax code would change for the better in a big fucking hurry.

I actually have myself at single to the highest withholding, wanna make sure not only that I dont owe but that I will get some back, yet I'm content with just not owing.

Really guys? No one here answered my question? You all replied with a bunch of nonsense but NO reply to my question? Sheesh.

get a better accountant? Claim less exepmtions? Why? Because the gov't is corrupt and spending is out of control and somebody has to pay for all the shit they give away to the people who won't work.

So you have roads to drive on, Police to "protect" , firefigheters to save your abode, military to protect you from foreign enemies, schools for your kids to go to, Safe food (FDA should be just food though), telephone connection. Just to Name a few.

To live in a "Civil" Society there is a price. But people take for granted how good we actually have it here in the USA. Go to Chennai(sp?) India and see their conditions. And India is supposed to be a "Industrialized" Nation.

Main reason is only around half of the country pays taxes. The rich and the poor almost pay nothing if anything, which leaves the burden to support everything on everyone in between. So they raise the taxes on us when they need more. One of the reason why there is a push to tax the rich and companies more, limit welfare, reduce government spending, and so on but it prob won't happen. They'll prob just tax the shit out of us till the whole system collapses.

People need to stop bitching about paying taxes, go to live in a piece of shit country, if you don't want to pay taxes, where all your money will be robbed out from under you. Because the country is corrupt

Personal responsibility? Naw...too extreme...

Did my question ever get answered??? Really.

Are you saying that you don't know how the taxation system works? Wikipedia is a great place for "facts" or some level of information. We're just a bunch of assholes with sarcastic remarks.

Let's go through that list:

Police -- local government
Firefighters -- local government
Military -- federal
Schools -- not a function of government
FDA -- not a function of government
Telephone -- private (as it should be)

For those that answered my question. Thank you very much.

But what I don't understand is why "tax" us twice? Why with our "weekly" paychecks? And then AGAIN on April 15 for MORE money?

Why can't they just take it out of our weekly paychecks and be done with it?

Or...

Why can't they just NOT take out money out of weekly paychecks and instead ask for taxes on April 15?

And there are better countries than us. France, England, Australia (best one).

The paycheck deductions are a guesstimate. Your actual taxes owed depend on other factors as well so on April 15 you have to settle up. Many peoria actually get money back at that time.

Enough of that, please. That is just mean. I made a mistake.

I wanted to know his age because I thought he was in his late 20's.

Smokescreen, are you an employee? You have filled out a w-4? You realize that you determine how much your employer withholds from your check right? You determine the deduction. Fill out your w-4 accurately and you won't be "taxed twice". Maybe I'm not understanding you correctly, this seems pretty basic.

Your employer did not withhold enough from your check, I'm assuming because you claimed too many allowances on your W-4. So, you owe that money on April 15th. You are not taxed twice, you just think you're taxed twice. If you want them to withhold more from your check or if you just want to owe in April all you have to do is adjust your W-4 or go and ask payroll to throw extra money towards federal or state; whichever one or adjust your allowances accordingly. You will always have Social Security and Medicare w/drawn from your check.

fuck that.. 52% already pay nothing.. i say you don't pay you don't eat..

I'm already doing all i can to keep my incomes down, and deferred income..

socialism does not work.. and if we took all the money from every millionaire in the usa, the country could run on it for 5 months?? maybe..

It's more than twice buddy. Federal tax, state tax, property tax, sales tax, inheritance tax, bonuses, prizes, gifts, forgiven debt, gas tax, cigarette tax, interest earned, ammo, car sales, and so on. There are hidden taxes everywhere. A lot of your local taxes are used for schools, roads, parks, etc. which is great. It's the feds in my opinion that waste more of it than anybody.Between federal and local you are taxed a half dozen times on the same money you earn.

The reason you pay more federal at end of year after paying weekly is according to their tax bracket you made too much compared to what you put in. Either you or your employer needs to take more out weekly to avoid writing a big check at end of year. Also its best to have a professional do them. Doing them myself bit me in the ass several times.

you should have barry's tax accountant.. he only paid 20% for +1 million in income..
Are you kidding? There are other people's tax accountants who are better. 20%? He over paid. If it was a 1%, he would have smarter and paid less.

The other question that I would have (generally) is what is the alternative?

I don't think that anyone likes paying higher tax, but it seems that they keep on getting higher...no matter who gets voted into power.

People talk a great game about lowering taxes and reducing spending, yet it just increases either through unmeasured / wasteful military spending (see right spending) or unmeasured / wasteful social programs (see left spending). Yes, that is an over-generalization, but that the general sense.

Not true.
And the severity of the condition is adjusted accordingly.

That's not accurate.

Adjustments are made based on the acuity of the condition, not the severity.

Here's a great example:

Advanced heart disease is a severe illness. It can kill you any moment. But if you are a stable patient with advanced heart disease, you're going to wait in the Canadian system before receiving definitive care.

The same is true for stable orthopedic injuries in Canada. Both are great markets for the US because so many people choose to seek earlier treatment here.

Personally being from canada, I know more Canadians who have traveled to Europe, and Mexico for operations, and dental work, than those who have turned to the states for their costly procedures. Not a lot of us are willing to dish out 40,000 for a knee replacement in the united states as opposed to getting it done for 10,000 say in another country like Europe or Mexico.

silly n00b. They get their surgery done in US with no wait time and Canaduh still pays the bill. A pod I know has a clinic just across the border so his Canadian pt's can do this.

0.11% of the population means about 36,000 Canadians come to the US of A for care each year.
Yea they're flocking over here:rolleyes:

Myth: Canadians are paying out of pocket to come to the U.S. for medical care. Most patients who come from Canada to the U.S. for health care are those whose costs are covered by the Canadian governments. If a Canadian goes outside of the country to get services that are deemed medically necessary, not experimental, and are not available at home for whatever reason (e.g., shortage or absence of high tech medical equipment; a longer wait for service than is medically prudent; or lack of physician expertise), the provincial government where you live fully funds your care. Those patients who do come to the U.S. for care and pay out of pocket are those who perceive their care to be more urgent than it likely is.

More than 1 MILLION Californians go to Mexico each year for healthcare.
With a Projected 1.6 Million Americans to travel JUST to Mexico this year.

The people that supposedly flocking to the USA for procedures are the rich, or those that (as you state) are covered by Canada's Healthcare and Canada's shortage of High tech equipment.

He covered that in post #63...

Canadians are some of my customer's best customers.

It's actually an ingenious plan. They use their own nationalized system for routine care and keep their production perfectly matched with demand through the use of queues. So they run a perfect 100% utilization and don't offer the cutting-edge care, which is often the most costly.

It's exactly how they handle defense. They rely on us for anything major and maintain their own placeholder force just so they can claim a military.

I love that plan. The problem is, who can the US sponge off of? We don't have a big brother that fights our wars and treats our esoteric diseases.

You would have to do it from so many directions. Possible flat tax across the board( still be able deduct certain things) for peoples income. You wouldn't want to tax industries profit too much because most will just leave and import here, but prob could put small regs on them for fees. Get the general population healthier and better educated(funny how those two are the first things we cut most of the time). I would put stricter regs on welfare....that way the people that need it can get enough to actually live out of poverty. Instead of creating more gov jobs I'd sub everything out to smaller businesses...and if they do a bad job contract it to another instead of a constant failing gov dept. from bs politics and beuracracy. I would put more on the local government to deal with there areas and problems. Cut the feds by alot. Stop feeding all these other nations and feed our own(which is big government setup to keep people suppressed by them being dependant). I could go on for hours but the main point is that it wont change because they use us to stay in power....keep us stupid, poor, and sick and we'll always be dependant upon them. Its beyond Republicans and democrats...both suck in so many ways. System needs total reform.

First of all, I never said "flocking", you did. I said, "many come to the US". If you say it's 36,000 (source?), I'd say that's many.

B. I see you just agreed with me and supported (although again without a reference) my earlier post about "many" Canadians coming to the US for services they would have to wait too long for in Canada.

3. I never mentioned the rich, nor (again) anyone supposedly flocking.

U mad bro?
