Why does negativity exist?

What is the point?

The only explanation that I can come up with is that it is like the fire that burns within us to make us go and do things.

Other than that there is no real explanation for it whatsoever.

What if a person is just grumpy. Does that person need to apply inner strength not to be negative to the one that causes the grumpy state?
