Why does my car battery keep going bad?

THe last one lasted less than 6 months. This one not even 2 months. Lights and everything come on as before but not enough amps to crank and battery will test bad.... They tested the alternator before putting the recent battery on and it tested good, so I'm baffled.

what fuse? Seemed they would have checked that last time, but I don't know. All the lights come on and radio, it just won't start without a jump and then dies soon after. Same thing as happened last time.

So even after a jump your car dies. That is weird if that is the case then you have a bad alternater, because if you get a jump and your battery is dead it should recharge it self but if it dies then its not the battery its the alternator. Does die soon after you shut it off or does it die while the car is still running? Do the headlights go dim sometime when your driving like the battery is going low and then jumping back up and the lights get bright again.

Put me in the bad alternator camp. My mom's old car had that problem and that's what it turned out to be.

crap, same thing happened to me. My car was slow to start for 2 weeks, then yesterday it was dead. I got a boost and had the battery replaced.
I hope it doesn't die again and it was just my battery.
My car is not that old, 2004 Mazda with 45,000 miles on it.

Mazda? Hmm.... The Mazda Miata used to have a weird-ass gel battery that would "cook" if you tried to charge it too quickly -- and that's exactly what the typical tow truck driver would do, 'cause he didn't know any better.

Now, I doubt that a mainstream car like the Protege would still have that kind of battery, but I would suggest you talk to the dealership, not just the local BBQ Garage and Tow Service dude.
