Everything you want is just out of reach. Well for many of us.

i think we all reach for things we cant have.... no matter how much money you make, their is always something you cant have.

life is a chase. we chase things we want the whole time we're alive. when you stop chasing, well, i guess i'd rather be dead than have nothing to pursue........

How did you know that I ate 3 cookies tonight? First time in many months. I'm dumbfounded.

it seems heart breaking to me, somewhat, that possessions, whether tangible or not, are what makes our hearts beat. even memories are precious to me, i clutch them tight and hold on with all i've got. but thats how it seems to go, to keep what we have, to get more, to replace what we've lost. did i just solve some ancient question?? i hope it isn't that trivial, i hope there's more, that's why i'll keep running toward the horizon. i hope i never get there.

We have a poet here. Very nice. "Memories, light the corners of my mind, misty water-colored memories of the way we were. Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind, smiles we gave to one another, of the way we were. Can it be that it was all so simple now? Has time rewritten every line? Tell me if we had the chance to do it all again, would we? could we? Memories..........."

Biteme you stress me bro....you make me do homework.

"Your state of mind
and your recognition of what is in it
depend on what you believe about your mind.
Whatever these beliefs may be,
they are the premises that will determine
what you accept into your mind"....

its all in how you see things brother, for example,I work like a dog, sometimes a month at a time or longer,no days off,all to support myself and make it as a adult,im far away from home most of the time, trying to build a relationship with a great girl I dont want to be away from and nobody familiar near.

but I love how life is right now,its all falling into place and will one day pay off.

find the good in it man, dont lose sight of the little things

You and the others who think like this need a god damn kick in your tired ass.

Possessions mean nothing, and if you let them mean something, then yes, you will be running on a treadmill to a horizon that never approaches.

I was standing on a street in Hanoi, Vietnam, the other day. I realized then that this was an experience like none other, that would broaden my mind, and allow me to see the world with greater understanding.

The result of this means that I will have more meaningful interactions with other people, that I will have greater wisdom to make a difference in more lives, and that the world can become better because of my interactions with others.

This is what it's about, that and finding at least one person to love and share these values with.

Stuff is just stuff. people and experiences matter. and none of this is out of reach if you seek it.

When i was in China, it was sad to see what wastes we have here like not finishing our food, wearing clothes only once and tossing it out in the garbage instead of donating it to someone who could really use it. Some of the things i saw was really disheartening. Especially, elderly men/women in their 70's and 80's who were digging in the trash to find food or recycle plastic whatever they could.

One time I saw this lady weathered looking in her 80s looking for plastic bottles in the trash. I had half a bottle of water left, and gave it to her. She smiled and drank the rest of it and tossed it in her bag of other plastic bottles...Friend with me gave her the rest of her ice cream and she gladly ate it.

Since being back in the states, i have reduced my material possessions to what i need and use daily. everything else, i donated or gave away.

I think you need a hobby Biteme.

Go back to school - community college and hit on the 20 year olds and get a degree in a science major, it'll probably change the way you think about things.

Or suga momma - the best option.

ive met some 19 and 20 year old girls at my college and its funny because it is the first time i actually talked to people of that age since i was 20 and that was 11 years ago. i think to myself, was i this nieve? some of them are real smart and mature but most of them are still in that 15 year old mentality. im not saying i was perfect at 20 but man i cant remember being like they were today.

great post bro...a true moment of clarity there...i envy your experience- but at the same time, i know exactly what you saw, felt and mean at the same time....

You can have it, it will only make you more envious of a still nicer car and keep you running on the treadmill toward a never approahcing horizon of materialism.

Giving you the car would hasten your destruction, so I cannot do this. when you no longer want the car, it will be here for you.

I had a fast car once, flipped it 3.5 times - so in that respect you are probably correct.

Almost like with women. The less desperate you are to get one, the more likely. When you finally have a gf, suddenly its like options start popping up.

The less stress you have and the more relaxed enjoyment studying, the better grades you will have.

People who spit on mininmum wage labourers, don´t become billionaires. The few of whom I know their exact history have work ethic, no arrogance and no pretention. Wanted to do their job as well as they could, rather than set out to earn as much money as possible.

then maybe you should shed your clothes and go live in the mountains, Dali Lama.

If you read my post, you would have observed that the intrinsic value in experiences is sharing them with others and enriching the world.

Those who head to the mountains deprive others of their experiences and contribute nothing.

Therefore, I will not be heading to the mountains.

I suppose your reply was more convenient than actually thinking about what would fulfill you in this world.

I was referring to a woman or women. Good stuff though.

in my original post, i stated that i found it heartbreaking that people put so much stock into possessions. i admit doing it myself. it is done by most people, atleast in this hemisphere, if that were not the case, we'd be watching shows called lifestyles of the broke and uninteresting. but, everyone loves their money & possessions, this is proven every time someone turns on a tv or turns the page in a magazine. i agree with you that materialism is a poor way of being truly "rich".

If you replace the word experience with the word FARTS, it becomes obvious that life is too short to waste.

Your statements are true and sad.

I read an author named victor hanson who wrote (among much other stuff) that the creation of so much wealth in the USA has as a natural consequence serious envy. As most americans have little to worry about (as far as basics like food and shelter) materialism is a natural outgrowth.

I tend to agree with him.
