Circumcision is thought to prevent the spread of HIV.

In areas in Africa where there are ritual cirucumcisions, the incidence of HIV/AIDs infection is lower.

A couple of other issues

1. Women have less education, fewer rights, they can't insist on the use of birthcontrol/condoms

2. Odd tradition for 'dry sex'. Women purposefully use things to dry their vaginas before sex.

3. Less access to healthcare. For example, pregnant women who test HIV +ve in the western world are given anti-virals and 'bloodless' deliveries, seriously reducing the lateral transmission of HIV to the baby.

I do not think it is a race issue. It is a culture and political issue. China, Russia, and India are facing the same problems. China even more so. The government officials in China for years refused to recognize there is a problem. Health official in rural areas reuse needles. I read one report that showed an entire village was infected because the government went in to get blood and they used the same damn needles on the entire group. Russian hospitals in rural areas are doing the same.

Africa is hurting the because of the lingering effects of colonialism and the incompetence of the current rulers down there. Botswana is a country that has done an outstanding job fighting not only corruption but also combating AIDS and the population there is virtually black. Good leadership and education is the key.

Very true, things are really bad in Russia and India.

It is not really known what is going on in China as the government has only just acknowledged that they have HIV and/or AIDs in the country at all.

Being that we are all smart and upstanding people here lets look at the reasons why and what makes this problem still a 3 world issue. See when AIDS was first detected it was miss diagnosed and thought to be the plague or even worst it was some new super germ like Ebola. It was at this point the US military started sending in Doctors and Germ warfare scientist to see if a new Bio weapon could be found . So for many years case after case of this went into the unsolved files of the WHO. And only when the doctors and missionary started to contract it became more of a issue .This whole thing started from the local people who were to poor to afford food and lived off the land started eating infected monkeys HIV is a sickness mosty found in lower prime mates.En turn they eat the whole thing nose to tail . Like other diseases in that region it was thought to be caused by evil forest gods. it wasn't until A gay flight attended from Canada contracted the virus from sex with a local male and became patient zero transporting the virus to Montreal then came to the USA .Back then in San Fransisco the bath house scene and unprotected sex was the in thing it wasn't until large numbers of gay men started showing up in local ER with what the press called GRID.
See there are numerous reasons why AIDS has spread so rampent in the 3rd world . Ranging from Sex trades, tribal wars that end in rape of vast number of women and genocide of most of the male population. The practice of eating humans was another reason till WHO put a end to that .More reasons are the rape of the land and Blood diamond trade. I could go on and on but the main reason I feel is the worlds lack of education for 3 rd world nations and how all the worlds governments are always putting up with shit from these dictators who seize power in Africa and then take the UN for a ride and fatten there own pockets while there nations dies in the streets and gutters for no reason at all other then greed.In most of theses countries a kids learns to fire a AK/ 47 before they ride a bike and it's only a few years off that a outbreak of Ebola or small pox or influenza works it's way back into our great nation and then it's just a matter of time.............FMT

Some parts of Africa the men think that having sex with a virgin takes the HIV/AIDS away, so they rape a lot of young children and girls thinking it will pass it to them and they will be rid of it... What they need is the education that that's not what happens...
