Why do some conservative Americans hate Canada?

I've never understood this hatred of Canada by some Americans. Canada has always been a good neighbor for us in the USA. They were right beside us on D-Day. They've never launched a missile at us and there have never been any serious tension between our governments.

My ancestors either went to Canada or the USA, so I am very fond of Canada.

Most Canadians are pretty cool. BUT, the fuckers in northern BC and the Yukon are total ass holes. Talk about backwoods folk with rotton attitudes who hate outsiders.

The reason is Canada has a lot of liberal policies that tick off conservative americans. pretty simple.

They enjoy one helluva' position in life: absolutely NO enemies and NOBODY would ever invade due to the Big Stick immediately to their South. And from that safe position, they have occasionally talked trash and been rather rude to the U.S. Plus, they're a bunch of socialist libs, due again to the factors I listed above.

I don't hate Canada, just FYI. But I do think they could at least support us more readily in some international endeavours rather than just jump on the socialist "anti-U.S. policy" bandwagon.

Personally, I think it's because of the safety of the position (being close to a big stick as someone put it) and our "small - person" complex. You know the type. The smallest guy in the gang always bitches the loudest.

Then again, that's just a stereotype. Not all Europeans are gay. Not all Americans are idiots. Not all Canadians are whiners.

I've never viewed Canada in that way. Our law enforcement officials seem to work well with theirs. They've helped us in WWII and I think they even sent troops to Vietnam. Their status as our neighbor doesn't mean they need to follow us on every single issue. If the rest of the countries in the world had an equal relationship with their neighbors, the world would be much more peaceful.

Every time I've been to Canada I've found the people to be friendly for the most part. There are always going to be some assholes on either side of the border.

So Canada should just shut their mouths and follow behind whatever the US wishes? Canada is a sovereign nation and we'll form our own foreign policy thanks. That said, we have backed the US in just about every situation including many unpopular with a lot of Canadians. Our soldiers are dying in Afghanistan right now.
