Why do people

turn to god when shit goes south for them.

im not saying its a bad thin,and I dont want any bullshit on here slamming anyone, its an honest question.

ill use myself as an example, when things are good,im thankful for them but I dont particularly look to god during those times, but when i hit a bump in the road and things just seem to be falling down around me I see myself looking for towards god for answers and guidance.

again im not looking for any bullshit in here,just curious as to why people do what they do

My Mother-In-Law... bless her heart... tells me that if there ever was a time in my life to pray, it is now. Pray for my wife, for her daughter, for the mother of my dauther, etc. I agree that if there ever was a time it is now... but I consider the concept so silly that no matter how down and out I may ever be - you'll never hear me ask neither the tooth fairy, nor god for help.

I think people look to "god" because it's what the majority do... it's all they know, it's what they grew up with , it's what is accepted and wer'e taught. honeslty I think that believing in "something" is better than believing in nothing, but to believe in yourself is the ultimate. If more people had the confidence in THEMSELVES to persue their dreams, goals and happiness- whatever that happiness may be for them, our world would be a much better place. To look to (a) "god" gives people confidence, they are not alone.... there is god... and the support to go on... but what is it really? where is that really coming from? it was written in a book. you control your thoughts, your mind, you control your actions. You choose to believe in what you will to get thru your situation. Some pick God, some don't. I think most that do, do it because they don't know any better.

people dont think of him when all is good. but when things go bad thats when people feel he is the only one to go to for help and answers. just because people dont go to him all the time does not mean they dont believe. and you cant say that if people went to him more often even when things are good bad things wouldnt happen, if thats true then why do so many bible thumping, church abiding people have bad things happen to them? we had a woman in a hospital pharmacy get shot in the head and killed just because the lady who shot her didnt want to have to wait in line for her meds. the woman she shot was 3 weeks pregnant too. they said the lady who was shot was a god worshiping saint and didnt deserve that. how do you explain the fact she was shot for no reason of her own. all she did was tell the woman she had to go to the back of the line and wait like everyone else.

because people have been taught that all good and bad comes from some "master plan" by god. when something extraordinary happens, god worked a "miracle". when something bad happens, god "works in mysterious ways". it's a way for people to try and make sense out of something that seems inexplicable....to try and comfort themselves in times of need...to thank something higher when things go right.

A drunk driver smashes into another car head-on and kills everyone in the other car and his own passengers. But the drunk survived. Why? Because it was the victims' "time to go"? because god was providing a "better life" in heaven?

And why did the drunk survive? as some sort of punishment from god?

we're masters of our own destiny. god doesn't cause things to happen. if god was all-powerful and truly worked miracles and was truly "loving and all merciful", why then do children die before they're 12, to never have a life? while at the same time giving life to pedophiles, rapists and murderers? why does god snatch away the life of the cancer patient, when his will was to survive? why are god's miracles selective? are some loved more than others?

god is a way for people to explain the extraordinary.

Im glad this took a good turn,I mean I really hadnt thought much about god of my faith until ive been battling the bottle pretty wildly ,and its weird now that im putting my thoughts in that direction etc I seem to be doing better,could be all in my head but im not being a drunktard

AS a last resort people reach to GOD to get them out of some shitty situations, but as soon as they are out of the binder , they would have all forgotten about HIM.

hes a good person to turn to when shit is going south, some people have other beliefs but thats who i would turn to for some support
