In a fucked up SG type way, that is true. They end up last cause they are to worried about helping everyone else finish first. Then they end up rotting in a ditch somewhere. Sometimes with their teeth knocked out and foreign objects inserted in their rectums.

You just have to learn to put yourself first sometimes. You can't place everyone's problems and priorities ahead of your's, all the time. Learn to say no sometimes, it is not neccassarily a bad thing, you know?

I've always been one of those nice guys and yes I have finished last too numerous to count. Being self-employed for 22 years has hardened me up quite a bit and it gets easier to just say NO. Nobody is going to lookout for you except yourself. You will get alot more respect from others when you take that stance. Some will call you an asshole.....but at least you won't be a dumb asshole. Take it in stride and choose your friends wisely!
