why do meth labs explode?

no shit.. but why do they blow up so much? Why the hell would someone work with something that has a 50/50 chance of blowing up and killing you? you never hear of steroid labs blowing up.
 
Did you watch the special on A&E last night too - I would have to say its b/c of the all scary chemicals that are used and what happens to them when they are heated and mixed.

Its really scary what meth is doing to so many people - Maybe conspriacy??
 
damn, I didn't see the A/E thing. What chemicals are used? I know cough medicie/tabs but that is not explosive.
 
I'm not sure but they were talking about one family that was living in a barn because they were so broke from the addiction of the parents. When the cops got there they were manufacturing in the barn and dumped all the chemicals out a window when they saw the cops. It made a big toxic cloud. The kids were inside.

Really sad.

I watched that.

AAP, they work with it because making it yourself is a lot cheaper than buying it, plus you can sell some of what you make.

A guy I used to work with did meth occasionally. He said, "good coke comes in a dump truck. Good meth you can fit in your pocket." Meaning, you'd need a shitload of coke, which isn't cheap, to get the same effect as a small amount of meth, which is cheap.

A friend of mine did it once. He said the first day was awesome, he partied all night long and drank his ass off and never got tired. The second day he said wasn't too bad, but that night he drank all damn night hoping he would pass out and finally get some sleep but it just wouldn't happen. He said he stopped drinking an hour before he went to work and felt like complete shit. That third day was really hard on him, he said he just wanted to die. He drank his ass off that night until he was falling down stumbling drunk and still had a hard time getting to sleep. He said being awake for 3 days straight really sucked.

The ammonium something is what's explosive. When made right, it's very stable during the cooking process. If you heat it too much, you're working on making a bomb. That same ingredient was used in the bombs in the oaklahoma city bombing.
 
It was so sad the show - Were talking about sometimes when they go to these places the kids are almost unconcious from breathing in the fumes/chemicals all day
 
A few interesting facts:

1. When you buy ephedra online you have to fill out a DEA form so they can track how much you buy to see if you are possibly making meth.

2. You can only buy so many batteries at one time at WalMart because they are used to make meth.

yes when your ferment it...its highly explosive.....Timothy Mcvey used it....40 or so 55gallon drums full to blow up the Federal Bldg.

yes, and that's one reason that it is so prevelant in rural areas where agriculture provides easy access to these materials.

But its not ammonium nitrate, its anhydrous ammonia that is used with meth. Some sort of derivitave of ammonium nitrate. This stuff is about as stable as my ex-girlfriend and that's why it goes BOOM and inflames the retards that are cooking it.

As for why you would mess with such a chemical, imagine being utterly and totally addicted to something that you could either make a barrel of it yourself dirt cheap or go through the trouble of buying. Unfortunately it seems to be a pretty easy decision for most of the addicts.

Yeah, there's a lot of nasty stuff in meth. Ammonium nitrate, psuedo ephedrine, red phospherus, ether, etc. A bud and I in high school played around with it once. We made a small batch of it. It was kinda fun but at the same time you get really spun out after a while. I still can't believe we were stupid enough to test it on ourselves. We should have picked out some other kid to test on. Your brain will keep telling you to go to sleep but your body will keep telling you to get up and keep going. There are a lot of rolls around right now that have meth in them. They are fun and all, but staying up for two days makes it a little tough on ya.

To make a small amount of meth you make a large amount of toxic waste. Great shit, isn't it?
 
That wouldn't surprise me. There is so much toxic garbage that goes into that stuff. I wanna know who the fuck thought it would be a good idea to mix all this stuff, cook it up or whatever, then smoke/snort/shoot the product. Talk about hair brain ideas.
 
Meth labs blow up for one reason:

Ether and rednecks do not mix.

That crap is so prevalent around here it is scary. Roughnecks love it.
Grand Junction is referred to as Spun Junction because of that crap.

Anhydrous ammonia is prevalent in manufacturing environments that require hydrogen because you can boil out the hydrogen from the ammonia with a cracking furnace. Anhydrous ammonia is a lot more stable to truck around than a tank of hydrogen.
 
so i'm assuming the hydrogen is what is the fuel to cause an explosion....still remember in chemistry in middle school...any spark of some sort and kaboom....even the ticking of your watch in a room full of hydrogen

One of the chemicals used to manufacture meth is red phosphorous. Highly unstable, even when handled correctly.

I saw this Cops episode where there was the strange smell coming from the woods in the middle of bum fuck nowhere. So the cop goes to check it out. There's a trailer/camper and a few tents. Then he finds a meth bucket. Then he calls in the K9 Unit and they find several more. He asked the guy why he put them so far out in the woods and he said so they wouldn't blow up.

They are very harmful chemicals....have you ever seen someone after using Meth even for a short time....fucks you up something awful....physically and mentally....

lol, yea kind of like carb fuel cleaner.

but yea people, lets not extrapolate whether a substance is harmful by the ingredients used to make it. we all know chemical reactions change the stucture and properties of those chemicals used.

if you eat, drink or take any meds, OTC or prescribed your ingesting all kinds of acids and caustics and countless other harmful chemicals on a daily basis.
 
a lot of my cop buddies dread going near those things. all of the volitile chemicals, etc. i heard that the life expectancy of the "chemists" is 4 years. they booby trap the fuck out of those places too. some of the shit i've seen is holes bored thru the frames of the doors with shotgun shells in them. then, a mousetrap with a hole in it is fitted over the shell so that when the door is opened, it trips the mousetrap which sets off the shell. but, for the most part, those guys booby trap them to explode. i know that haz-mat crews are usually called in....
