I am losing pics right now. They will be there yesterday, but today... gone. It is weird. Like some pics of me are gone. And pics of my company's logo I had for a screensaver are gone. I mean, I did not delete them, they just disappeared... my screensaver says "UNABLE TO LOCATE C:\..\..\etc"

I used Norton and the virus software from work, but nothing registerd as bad.

is it just pics disappearing or is it a bunch of stuff? If it's just pics... You HD is probably fine :)

Just Pics.

All my programs are here.

If the virus definitions are old on your virus scanner, the virus won't be detected. Some viruses, like Klez, are smart enough to disable your virus protection and will prevent you from re-installing it until the virus is inocculated.

Could be the I Love You virus (or a variant):

LoveLetter arrives as an email attachment named: LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.VBS though new variants have different names including Very Funny.vbs, virus_warning.jpg.vbs, and protect.vbs. The subject of the message containing the attachment varies as well. Opening the attachment infects your machine. This attachment will most likely come from someone you know. Don't open any attachments unless you are sure that it is virus free. If you're unsure, ask for the sender to confirm that the attachment was intended for you. You'll know you have the worm if you have difficulty opening MP3 and JPG files.

Hey Guys,

You are all so awesome. I work in IT and everytime someone posts an IT related question I want to answer but you all beat me to it. Great answers. It seems as if everyone here really knows their stuff.

Most probably scenario is that someone broke through your firewall and slipped a trojan in there so that he now has unfetterd access to your HD whenever you're online.

Files don't simply "dissapear'. :)

Just pics... funny thing... is that I have noticed that the only pics that disappeared are the ones I have posted on EF. Pics of me and pics of the company logo I sent someone.

?????

Even the pics in the threads of myself are gone. Only little red X's now.

Some were from C:My Pictures... the others from my desktop. Others from the Dreamweaver folder I have.

odd, indeed. Anybody else have access to your computer at home? Jilted lovers, angry contractors, etc?

No, I am the only one using it. I was going to send a pic of myself to someone on here that asked... looked and it was gone. I thought.. no big deal... it was not in the recycle bin... then I noticed my company LOGO was gone. Then when my screensaver popped up... the personal photos (2) I had loaded in were not there... I got that error message saying "Webshots is unable to located C:...\...\...etc No Such File.

it's a sign of government agencies' forensic software going through your computer. clean house bro...

Seems someone is targetting AAP.

You have any vicious enemies? :)

It takes a fair degree of skill to hack through a firewall and deposit a trojan undetected.

I'd format my HD and re-initialise it. The re-boot with backups.
