Why are Americans so violent?????????

Japan's lack of murder is attributed to their lack of rights of the accused which usually result in less-than-acceptable judiciary practices. It has nothing to do with the fact that they don't have any guns.

More guns = less crime. Lift gun restrictions throughout the U.S. and you will see a sharp drop in crime, just as has always been the case in any city that passes any kind of law in favor of the 2nd Amendment.

If everyone were allowed to carry a concealed weapon, the newspapers would go out of business from so little crime to report.

hmm - not sure what crimes you speak of.

if everyone had ready access to a weapon, there would be an increase in crimes that we don't see now, and a decrease in others. more hate and rageful heat of the moment crimes, and probably fewer purse snatchings.

There are many countries that don't allow guns at all in their countries (obvious an exception to the military and police). They have hardly any gun deaths every year. They have stabbings, and they might have more purse snatchings, but you can bet your nuts that they don't have people killed by stray bullets in gang wars and snipers killing people in their capitol.

It is a give and take - but it is increadibly hard to kill someone with your gun if you don't have a gun.

Just was listening to the radio this morning. There was this guy on there named Michael Moore, he is a film maker and he has a documentary film out about the rise of violence in the United States. It was very disturbing to hear how high the murder rate is here in the US compared to other countries. It is not only disturbing it is alarming. The movie is called Bowling for Colombine. What he is attempting to do is get some answers why the US is so violent. Last year there were 11,000 people murdered in the United States, Canada had 100. He thought that there has to be a correlation between guns and murder rate. Well, when he traveled to Canada he found out that more than half of Canadian households have guns in them, but then why such a low murder rates compared to the US. Why are Americans so prone to kill instead of talking out their differences? How come such a similar country as Canada can have such a low murder rates and the US have such a high murder rate? It is even more disturbing to here how low the murder rates are in Europe and Japan compared to ours. Cities like Washington DC had more murders in a year than most countries in the world. Why is that I wonder? Canadians watch the same TV; they play the same violent video games, the listen to the same Marilynn Manson and Ice Tea CDs. Why are they so more civilized when it comes to not picking up a weapon and murdering someone? Before you say well we have so many more people in the United States our murder rate per capita is still something like 20 times that of Canada (cannot remember the exact figure) Anyway, I am going to check out this movie, I heard it is great and I also heard Charlton Heston makes a fool out of himself and the NRA had better get another spokes person.

Canada: 30 million
US: 280 million.

Approximatations.

Murder rates Canada: 100/30 million = 1 person/300,000

Murder rates US: 11,000/280 million = 1 person/25,000

Its 12X as bad, looking at it from a demographic standpoint.

Pretty bad I'll grant you. This is one of the reasons people
like living in Canada more than the US.

Whiner. :)

I went skiing up in Mt. Tremblant for a week, and it was -67C with the wind chill factor.

Ottawa averaged -20/-30C during winter.

Nice summers though.

Really?
I'm bettin' that the lives of an average Canadian and and average American are pretty damn similar. (Except, of course, the Canadians I.Q. is significantly higher :D)

it's because...

American life is VERY fast-paced, workaholic, no time to relax...and thus stress becomes a huge problem...horrilbe relationships and dating...people not trusting one naother...every man and business company (enron) for themselves.

Yes, I do have more questions for you. Can you explain what you meant by this statement above? Are all the 11,000 murders that occurred last year from over worked businessmen? Again I have to go back to Japan as an example, if there is any country that is a country of over worked workaholics it is Japan and once again their murder rate is in the low teens. I am not sure being a workaholic has anything to do with the murder rate in this country. If what everyone is saying were true that the majority of the murders are gang related then I would probably being a society of workaholics would have nothing to do with the murder rate, wouldn’t you? I am not trying to start an argument here I am just trying to get a intelligent conversation on why our society is more murderous than others.
