funny as it is, this charity concert nets each performing act with $12,000 worth of merchandise and services...furthermore i'm sick of throwing money at africa. we have been doing this for years and personally i don't see any fuckin' progress. no one cares about the results, the just wanna throw them more money.

Until Africa gets rid of all the despotic dictators, theocracies and tribal bickering, throwing money at the problem won't help. Forgiving government debt only gives the despot another palace. Geldof's heart is in the right place, but the Irish bastard has done too much el cid to bring a clue to the table.

Theres no way 3 billion people watched this. It's not that big a deal........I mean, neither I nor anybody I know has even brought it up in conversation.

I think that concert they had after 9/11 was more watched than this. My whole family had friends come over and we all sat down and watched it. It was a big deal. Sheet my mom even donated money over the phone.

This Live 8 thing blows. Bono can blow me, that stupid fuck

Good point, I thought it was pretty cool of Geldof and Bono to tell the musicians and actors to stay out of politics today, and just stay on target. Even tho, in the real world this means nothing to the African child.
 
Yeah Bono's heart is in the right place, but this is going about it all wrong because the only people who benefit from this are the corporate sponsors and bands. Why doesn't Bono donate all his U2 earnings to Africa then?

Nothing will top SarsStock. That concert rocked! Though I am looking forward to seeing Motley Crew take the stage.

Was it 12K per ACT or 12K per performer? I had heard the latter, which would take the price tag up dramatically.

My personal prediction is that this will be a flop. People have been throwing money at dire situations left and right for the past few years (9/11, Iraq, Tsunami, etc), and I think (at least here in the US) that many people are tired of tossing money to this charity and that charity. Gas and food prices are steadily on the rise, and more people are concerned for their own financial well-being. Their charity is focused more on groups that they KNOW where the money (and wht percentage of the money) will go.

But giving support to a cause, no matter how naive it might be, or how unlikely that the goal they are trying to achieve, will be achieved, is considered a foolish notion with hidden agendas. Fuck the agendas, think about the statement. The issue at hand. There are more to life than our own conceited selfish point of view.
I'm not saying that we should feel bad for the priveliged lives that we live. I'm saying that we should help and support causes that can make a difference to the ones dying of starvation and poverty.

This is not a fundraiser, so all of our "precious" money is safe, all we have to do is sign our name and support the cause.

The whole purpose of this concert is to spur the members of the G8 Summit members to forgive African debt. That WILL NOT aid ringperm's cause. In fact its a detriment to the cause of helping the African poor because it props up the despotic governments that keep them that way.

I do agree that aimlessly throwing money around doesn't solve this problem. It still saves lives, and that's what's important.

But by cancelling the debt's, changing the trade laws, that allows or opens for the possibility that african traders can be selfsufficient and increasing the aid will still help. And that's what it's all about. Helping those in need.

By giving a "flying fuck" which seems to be the sentiment by the majority here, doen't help at all. Forget about politics, forget about dictators and sorry excuses for not heling, for a moment. And forcus instead about the 25000 children that dies every day. That's what matters. 25000 is "helluva" lot more than the victims of 9/11, but apparently not that important.

I'm just saying sign it. Nothing more, nothing less
