im looking to get one now that i finally have a career and can afford a car and a new toy... i havent rode in a while but im looking at one of the new 2001 honda cbr600f4's..... what do you guys think about that bike, or if you have any other suggestions for a basically new/havent rode in about 6 years rider. thanks.

I used to want a bike, until i saw this wreck on the freeway where a guy lost his leg in a motorcycle wreck. It was laying in the middle of the rode, i drove past it. Just a boot, sock, and half a leg sticking out. That was fucked up. Like a bad dream.

Bikes have come a long way in the past 6 years. Any of the 600's will do you just fine, though I'd stay away from the Kawasaki's because of poor build quility. The Honda F4i is a fine bike, but I'd recommend the R6. The RC51 is nice, but the ride is "weird", you'll know what I mean if you get to try it. I got a 2000 R1 (not recommended if you're just starting out again).

I had a Yamaha FZR-600 that was a great bike.Handle nicely and was very lite..I'd atleast check one out...

I HAVE A ZX6R AND I THINK IT IS GREAT. I USED TO RACE 2 STROKES (ROADRACE) AND A 600 IS ALL YOU NEED. ANY OF THE 600'S WILL DO JUST FINE. AS FAR AS FALLING GOES THERE 2 TYPES OF RIDERS: THOSE WHO HAVE FALLEN AND THOSE WHO ARE GOING TO FALL. JUST HOW SAFE YOU RIDE IS UP TO YOU.

Ducati

For the price of a new CBR 600 you can get a sweet used 750 Super Sport.

Or for that matter you can get a new Monster 900. Not really a crotch rocket, but an awesome bike nonetheless.

Check out www.munroemotors.com that's where I got my bike.

And I fall into the latter category....... my opinion is to stay away from those things.... I fell off a crotch rocket at the blazing speed of 3 mph.. yes THREE miles an hour...took a dive parking it..it launched me across the concrete and skidded the hell outta my hands....... this being the same bike that earlier in the day I had going 150 easy on the highway....... Sold it the next week and never got back on one again.......

DUDE, DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THE 600!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT VERY SOON. IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD GET A GSXR750 SRAD. THAT BIKE IS THE SHIT. YOU CAN LEARN ON IT AND IT CAN RUN WITH SOME BIGGER BIKES. IF YOU WANT TO GO ALL OUT GET A GSXR1000.

I'm 6/4 245. I am a bigginer. What size bike should I start with. I have never riden, but with go to school first.

I rode a 1896 Kawi, when new, but got rearended by Godfather's Pizza They were fucked and I got a minimal
settlement for a hip replacement, this is the 3rd one in 7 years. I myself would love to ride, if I was terminal and had 6 months to go. But that is just me to go and by the best I could afford. Good luck and be CAREFUL!

One of my girls just bought that exact bike... the F4 in the red and white and the black and silver is hot as hell... The 600 is a great peppy bike, but if you can do it, the 750 is even better... I learned on a 900 and am actually taking my written test tomorrow... so wish me luck :) For me, when i decide to purchase, i will be looking at hondas too... probably used though for my first bike like maybe the F3 or something of the like... But i will admit that the 900 was a bit intimidating and i want to start off with something with a little less power... that is what riding comes down to.. CONFIDENCE!!! Get the bike you know you can handle and then go from there... Good luck bro.. go burn some rice lol

LAWNSAVER---IF YOU ARE THAT BIG, YOU WILL NEED A BIG BIKE. NOTHING LESS THAN A 900. I WOULD GO WITH THE GSXR1000 THOUGH. SINCE YOU WANT TO GO TO THE SCHOOL YOU SHOULD BE OK. A FRIEND OF MINE IS 6-6 ABOUT 250 AND HIS FIRST BIKE WAS A HAYABUSA! HE HAS NVR RIDDEN BEFORE THAT AND HE IS DOING JUST GREAT.

The F4 is a great bike. It's more of a neutral sportbike. Good in town, good for cruising, good in corners, etc. The newer 600's all produce pretty good power these days. Myself, I prefer to have strong torque and that's why I love V-Twins. 600's produce itty-bitty torque. The RC51 is a wanna-be Ducati and for a new rider it is a little too "racer-rep".

You need to find out what type of riding you will be doing before you decide on a bike. Honestly though, if you're shopping brand new 600's and if you're not an avid sportbike rider, then the F4 or the Kawasaki ZX6 is probably your ticket. The Yamaha R6 and Suzuki GSXR600 are pure race-reps. Me, I like race-reps since I'm a weekend trackday guy but for a street-only guy they would probably piss you off after a while.

thanks for all the replies.... i think i will go with the cbr... even though its only a 600, i felt comfortable on my friends, so i think itll help me feel more comfortable getting back into riding, and at the same time, has enough power to let me know not to get too comfortable and respect what the bike is capable of. thanks agian for all the input and advice.

BPB, I'm sure I've told you this before.....but I'll tell you again.....I fucking love the sound of the Honda V-four.

Man, that is one of the coolest sounds in motorcycling. Second only (in my opinion) to the Ducati. lol
