this is day 3 for me and ive had a headache all day, any one else have this trouble? does it go away? is it from lack of carbs, or just from being hungry all day? ive been starving all day (except 10 min after i eat) and totally tired. Im at about 2000 cal/day, is this enough (5'11", 197lbs, probably upper teens body fat%)? please respond if anyone has some suggestions.

Since you are here, I'm assuming you work out alot, I would recommend the Ketogenic or Anabolic Diet rather than Atkins.

cool thanks for the replies guys, do they go away though? And what is better for resuts, atkins or some of the other diets that i read about on here? A guy on here told me that he lost 15lbs. in 3 weeks on atkins, is that possible, or is that a lot of water weight. I plan to lift 4 days a week and 1/2hr. cardio on lift days, 1 hr. cardio on the others.

15 lbs in 3 weeks is VERY possible. I lost 11 in 3 without any of that counting calories stuff. I ate ANY MEAT AT ANY time and the weight FLEW off. The first week totally sucks, you're gonna be weak and tired as hell... that should improve tremendously in the second week though. Good luck with it.

The headaches doo go away.. depends on how carb addicted you were.. or lets say carb dependent.. your body is just adjusting to goin from glucose based energy to fatty acids and ketones... also you body is upregulating the enzymes necessary to use fat efficiently.. and there are still a lot of carb enzymes running around too.. u will adjust to it.. believe me.. the headaches do go away.. just hang in there... check out the ketogenic diet by lyle macdonald.. that is the bible...

You should be okay a 2k cals/day for a few weeks. Maintenance is around 3k at your weight.

Take vitamins and drink a lot of water. I never lose much weight unless I'm in the bathroom every two hours. :D

Listen to BigBear, he's right on. Another problem has to do w/ blood sugar levels which will take time to stabilize. If you are hungry all the time you should eat more, at least for a few weeks to adapt to the diet. After that then worry about cutting cals, but having a headache b/c of switching diets so fast AND being hungry will make u more likely to drop the diet.

Another options is gradually reduce carbs over a few weeks, again cutting them out fast can cause the problems you have but WILL make u adapt faster, and its not unhealthy so if u can deal then things will be better soon enough.

don't forget to include some healthy fats. nat.peanut butter, peanuts are staples in my diet even though i'm off the keto diet. if you find yourself getting hungry take in some healthy fats to satisfy your hunger. hang in there man. you'll be glad you did. week one was hell for me but it gets easier
