Whoohoo!!! I finally got my ps2 playing back ups.

Here's the thing. I'm interested in making back ups of my games. I have young kids at home and they have a habit of touching my games and ruining them. I've lost 2 this year. Do I have to mod my PS2? I don't mind paying for the software. Does a CD Burner work the same as a DVD burner?

Yup.

Theres a chip you have to Solder in.

Voids the warranty though.

how much do these add ons run for bro? I dont ever buy games because I cant afford it,but with this I would enjoy lots of games by renting them and copying.

Here is the one I got. You need to get the right one for your ps2 version. The only thing that sucks is it seems to take a couple of tries to get the game to boot but once it does it's all good.

wow...cool. :)

I know. It an easy way to go about it and swapping disc is slightly a headache but when you think of the saving it's so so worth it. With the blockbuster pass I feel like most people feel when they 1st found about napster way back when. In case you didn't know that's feeling like a kid in a candy store.

Lastly you need a DVD and CD burner because there are CD and DVD backups of PS2 games.

Holy crap the swap trick is not the greatest thing to be doing for your hardware or your dvds.

Get someone in your city to put the mod chip in for you. I could have done it myself but was more comfortable having the guy up the street charge me for the chip and the install that 100% covered my system - if he messed it up he would replace it.

He also installed all the stuff I needed from the latest BIOS and Evox Dash to the MAME emulator stuff. (I'm running xbox).

I have also downloaded over 50 xbox games.... screw paying blockbuster AND my ISP.

time out...so you rent a game, then you burn it? What kind of burner do you have a dual cd burner? Then use the flip top to play?????

These days most experts in the area say the disc swap method is the best way to go. Most mod chipsusually burn out over time or wires come apart often leaving with a PS2 that won't boot back ups anymore or won't boot anything at all. Search google "swap magic vs. mod chip". Here is one thread from the board to go to with questions on this. BTW the Xbox is way easier to chip than a PS2.

The board you linked to is a great newbie site but look at how many discussions are from one stop shoppers asking the same questions – and how many answers come from newbies or junior members who are just regurgitation something that another newbie told them.

When you say most experts I’ll need some clarification on what constitutes an expert.

Most mod chips burn out over time? This would be a very and I mean very rare occurrence and (rare like breaking your neck scrambling an egg – a sloppy install or bad solder job is the culprit) the last time I even heard about that happening was in 2002 and who knows what the conditions were. Many new chips since then.

When you swap out a disk you are putting unwanted wear and tear on the drive itself and the dvd/cd media you risk scratching. Plus it’s annoying as hell.
When you hear about some games not working with a mod chip those are the games that people have tweaked to work better with swap mods – and since you said you are renting your games this would not ever be a problem for you.

A mod chip will also allow you greater flexibility with your ps2 but that is just my 2 cents and I’m Canadian.

Well on experts on that board I not talking about typical newbie posters or those who make one post stands. I know 2 people whose chips stops working. But I say to everyone do whatever the hell you want to do. Sheesh! I'm happy with my swap disc though.
