I think such terms are definitely hair-splitting at a point. I would probably also not consider van halen, def l., or ratt/poison/etc to be metal, but glam rock. I think of a lineage from black sabbath, to priest and maiden, to slayer and metallica, then pantera and hatebreed, now shadowsfall/kse/lamb of god. To me metal is a consistent line of musical development where each gen follows closely on the energy of the previous wave. But this argument always comes up here. . . Share your thoughts on what metal is, please.

Your right majutsu...So many people have so many ideas on what metal is that it's almost like having a religion or political thread......No one can win the argument cuz there is no one set method...only what each individual thinks is all....What is Metal to me might be hard rock to another...What might be hardcore to one person could be a form of punk to another. I just consider everything that makes me shake my head and get my heart pounding to be Hardrock/Metal even if it's "Wasted" by Def Leppard..who some feel is AOR. It's all good!! and that way I avoid.."This isn't that" or "they arn't this"!!
