Who knows Japanese? Need a little help

I need some help understanding what these means:

kuruma ni notte iru onnanohito

or if you have Japanese character support:

Above the text is a picture of a woman sitting in a car, that part of the sentance I know, I'm having a hard time figuring out what the ‚Ì‚Á‚Ä‚¢‚é("notte iru") part means. I looked it up in a dictionary and the meaning didn't make any sense for that context.

as for "shito", "shito" does not mean person, it means disciple, apostle, etc. Unless you know some other than Tokyo dialect, like Kyushu dialect or something....

I think the correct translation is:

"The female acolyte who is riding in the car", not "There is a woman sitting in a car."

"Kuruma ni notte iru" is modifying "onna no shito" so this is not a complete sentence, but a modified noun clause.

"Notte iru" is the gerund of "noru" (to get on, to board a vehicle, or to ride) + iru which indicates a continuing activity or a continuing state resulting from a previous activity (e.g., tabete iru = "I am eating" or "I have eaten (and continue to be affected by the activity)".

Here notte iru is modifying a noun so "I/you/he/she is riding" becomes "[implied subject] who is riding".

By the way, I am on a Mac and have the Apple Japanese language kit correctly installed (I can view sites like Asahi Shinbun w/o difficulty), but the Japanese text is still showing up garbled.
