Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the poor and uneducated (when they possess both qualities) BE the ones going to war? Some of the people from my town that went would either be ringing you up the grocery store, selling drugs, or in jail. I really don't see the point of drafting a college kid who may have a lot to offer the world, or a parent of 2 who obviously has duties at home, especially when there are hoodlums hanging out on corners day and night performing dangerous or illegal activity; and especially since theyre getting a PAID chance to better themselves (with the risk of dieing/being injured).

I'm really not trying to sound insensitive so please offer a counter argument, politely.

I am not a fan of the blind leading the blind. Officers are [generally] college educated. A big part of my studies revolved around military strategy, war philosophy, game theory... Political Science...etc. I have never been in the military, nor did I ever intend to. But, generally, the chance to "better themselves" is generally a great selling point for enlistment. But, the reason that money for college is offered as an incentive to enlist is precisely because of rate at which it is taken advantage of: very low. The purpose of drafting a college kid ( i do not support a draft, period) would be to recruit at leadership positions. Drafting or enlisting criminals and hoodlums carries a whole set of additional problems. Having a criminal element that does not retreat in a gunfight with law enforcement, but presses a fast forward cadence is scary shit

Look, I dont know what a perfect draft would be. I dont think drafts work. People who are forced to do something are usually pretty shitty at it. We need a highly motivated group of soldiers that believe in what they are doing.
