Who am I talking about? pt. 2

what I think is cool about all of this is yes every culter or race at one time or another has a similar story about jesus or what ever they called him...I find it cool that all of them have a the same story though.there has to be some truth to it if hundreds of deferent races and cultures have some kind of version of it.
it gives some truth or a very good indicators that there is a lot of truth to a few things
1.a man was born of a virgin
2.he was born around the same time of year in all stories
3.he was a prophit
4 he preformed miracles of divine nature
5.he was killed and rose from the dead in 3 days.
6.he was the son of god in most stories
7.he is the only way to heaven in most stories
what I find even more interesting is that is that is about all you really need to know and beleive.

So what this says to me, is that when people went to write the Bible (remember, it was written by men) they borrowed HEAVILY from other gods and other stories.
Its also shown that these other stories were based on things like the sun and the stars.
So Christianity is a derivation, or a collaboration of many ancient beliefs.
Yet despite all of this, people STILL take it literally!
Do you agree that Mithra, Krisha, Dionisys, and others were NOT born of virgins right? Its pretty apparent that no one was born of a virgin, but it makes a great story for a god. Same goes for Jesus.
None of them were raised from the dead.
None of them performed "miracles."

na I dont see it like that and i never will.the thing is once some one believes 99.99% of the time no one or no thing will ever make them ever really make them stop believing.you can make threads or talk to a believer till you're blueLestat said:

I don't see it as a waste of time. I don't think searching for truth is ever really a waste of time, even if the truth isn't whjat you wanted to hear.needtogetaas said:

Do you know what a myth is? Something that is widely regarded as the truth, but is not factual. By definition, many people will regard religious myths as truth and I am ok with that, but I will not stop trying to spread truth at every available opportunity.
Your statement sounds very ignorant. No disrespect bro, but just because you believe in something, doesn't mean you should stick your head in the sand and pretend that the rest of the world doesn't exist.
I feel like I've grown as a person through my self education and reading. I could spend that time getting drunk or something else far less productive I suppose, but instead I continually try to expand my knowledge of the world, not limit it.

I don't feel that way about anything bro, look at history, we are constantly growing, learning new things about ourselves and the world. That book was written by men, put together by other men, and has been translated and re translated by men. Its certainly not something I'd call infallable, and I don't think much of it applies to today's world.needtogetaas said:

All of that doesn't make it any more or less true. It can be 100% effective, yet 0% true.
The problem is that for some people, believing that it is true, makes them behave very badly, its happened in the past and will happen again.
My goal would be to find a way to get all of those great benefits I listed above WITHOUT having to believe in fairy tales. It has to be possible. You should be able to get all of those things out of life without having to say "yes, I believe the earth is 10,000 (roughly) years old" "yes, I believe homosexual are immoral" "yes, I believe that if YOU don't believe what I believe you are going to hell."
