the most interesting part to me though, is that all of these gods were worshipped LONG BEFORE the advent of Christ.needtogetaas said:what I think is cool about all of this is yes every culter or race at one time or another has a similar story about jesus or what ever they called him...I find it cool that all of them have a the same story though.there has to be some truth to it if hundreds of deferent races and cultures have some kind of version of it.
it gives some truth or a very good indicators that there is a lot of truth to a few things
1.a man was born of a virgin
2.he was born around the same time of year in all stories
3.he was a prophit
4 he preformed miracles of divine nature
5.he was killed and rose from the dead in 3 days.
6.he was the son of god in most stories
7.he is the only way to heaven in most stories
what I find even more interesting is that is that is about all you really need to know and beleive.
duh! I think even Christians realize that at this point. December 25 was chosen because of the winter solstice.Altius said:Jesus was not born on December 25 (if ever he really existed)
this is correct!Stefka said:Dionysus
na I dont see it like that and i never will.the thing is once some one believes 99.99% of the time no one or no thing will ever make them ever really make them stop believing.you can make threads or talk to a believer till you're blueLestat said:the most interesting part to me though, is that all of these gods were worshipped LONG BEFORE the advent of Christ.
So what this says to me, is that when people went to write the Bible (remember, it was written by men) they borrowed HEAVILY from other gods and other stories.
Its also shown that these other stories were based on things like the sun and the stars.
So Christianity is a derivation, or a collaboration of many ancient beliefs.
Yet despite all of this, people STILL take it literally!
Do you agree that Mithra, Krisha, Dionisys, and others were NOT born of virgins right? Its pretty apparent that no one was born of a virgin, but it makes a great story for a god. Same goes for Jesus.
None of them were raised from the dead.
None of them performed "miracles."
I don't see it as a waste of time. I don't think searching for truth is ever really a waste of time, even if the truth isn't whjat you wanted to hear.needtogetaas said:na I dont see it like that and i never will.the thing is once some one believes 99.99% of the time no one or no thing will ever make them ever really make them stop believing.you can make threads or talk to a believer till you're blue
in the face and 99.99% of the time your just going to be bashing your head against a brick wall so why waste so much of your life doing it.why put so much time into it lestat that what I really want to know...your not making even a pin head size of a deference yet you put so much time reading about it,talking about it,making threads about it,thinking about it,letting it consume
you thoughts and there for consume your life as I said before.you always tip toe around this one as I sespect you will do again but really why waste your
time when its doing nothing at all but consume you.think about that.

My goal isn't to change your mind, this generation is pretty much a lost cause as far as that is concerned, but as we make progress as a society, we will only be doing ourselves a favor by educating each other in history and the origins of many of our beliefs.
Do you know what a myth is? Something that is widely regarded as the truth, but is not factual. By definition, many people will regard religious myths as truth and I am ok with that, but I will not stop trying to spread truth at every available opportunity.
Your statement sounds very ignorant. No disrespect bro, but just because you believe in something, doesn't mean you should stick your head in the sand and pretend that the rest of the world doesn't exist.
I feel like I've grown as a person through my self education and reading. I could spend that time getting drunk or something else far less productive I suppose, but instead I continually try to expand my knowledge of the world, not limit it.
I don't feel that way about anything bro, look at history, we are constantly growing, learning new things about ourselves and the world. That book was written by men, put together by other men, and has been translated and re translated by men. Its certainly not something I'd call infallable, and I don't think much of it applies to today's world.needtogetaas said:well if you look at it like that it is better then some things you could be doing with your time.and at least you do show a large entrust in finding something.it shows you are looking trying to find something.maybe stop looking out side yourself and look inside every once in a wile...I dont stick my head in the sand bro I do here every thing you say but its more then just what is written in a book some where for me.its a part of me that I cant ignore.I dont know all the answers but I do know and feel very strongly that there is a god.in fact I feel it so strongly that no amount of any thing could ever change it.
I know its hard to understand for you but thats just the way it is.
the book its self ant even much of what I am talking about....I am just saying how a feel about there being a god.Lestat said:I don't feel that way about anything bro, look at history, we are constantly growing, learning new things about ourselves and the world. It can be an inspiration to you, bring you peace of mind, give you strength, something to hold onto.needtogetaas said:the book its self ant even much of what I am talking about....I am just saying how a feel about there being a god.
